Guest Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 So I've done a comparison of 8 of our players, all in contrasting positions around the pitch, just to see who our best performers have been this season. This chart just furthers the idea that Downing is the best player at the club, he's now playing left-back and still averaging stats like this. Final scores at the bottom, with Downing in 1st, Lewis Travis in 2nd and Bradley Dack in 3rd. Shout out to Tosin Adarabioyo who wins many categories here by an absolute landslide, and could turn out to be one of those Harrison Reed types who we just get too attached too and never want to see go! PG = Per Game Green > Light Red goes 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 - Dark Red scores 0. BD = Bradley Dack SD = Stuart Downing EB = Elliott Bennett AA = Adam Armstrong TA = Tosin Adarabioyo JR = Joe Rothwell CE = Corry Evans and finally, if anyone wants to see some players compared more specifically, like Gallagher vs Graham or something like that, let me know - love little tit bits of information like this. Guest Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Some stats for the Derby County game: 40.7% of our possession comes in the middle third, highlighting just how well Lewis Travis has played this season. Compared to last season, and the season before, where an extra 6% of our play was in the first third (playing around the back four) - it is commendable that Lewis Travis, Stuart Downing and more recently Corry Evans are managing to control midfield areas in most games. Compare this with someone like Luton Town. They spend 34% of their possession in their own third, the highest in the division, and are getting caught out as Brentford's 7-0 thrashing has shown. From here, over 40% of our attacks go down the right hand side. Elliott Bennett's introduction at Stoke City this weekend saw another fresh face on the right-wing, and it's where the winning goal came from. Finding a right-winger with a decent final ball in him in the January window could be the key to unlocking more attacking potency out of this side, it could give Sam Gallagher more chances from crosses, and allow Bradley Dack to get into the box even more so than he does now. Only 5 other teams exploit one side more vigorously than Blackburn do, including Millwall, who play nearly 50% of their attacks down their right hand side, around 20% down the middle and the rest down the left. Derby County are also a right hand side favouring side. 6% more of their attacks come down the right rather than the left, and when in controlled possession, Derby favour a down the middle approach, with 45% of their possession coming in the middle third and channel. This battle between Derby's middle and Blackburn's middle play this season could see a completely different game to the one on offer last season at Ewood Park. Whoever wins the midfield battle probably wins the match. Unlike Stoke, Derby are not a crossing team. In-fact only 6 teams have crossed the ball less than Derby this season. Tosin and Darragh will have a completely different threat to deal with than the one posed by Sam Vokes at the weekend. Derby favour a much more possession based approach, playing through balls and one two's in the box, and the likes of Tom Lawrence are always looking for free-kicks and penalties around the opposition area. Sitting deep against Derby simply isn't an option. Derby win an average of 12.2 fouls per game, which is bang in the middle of the road for the season so far - for comparison - Rovers manage to draw 11.6 fouls, perhaps a testament to our players sportsmanship rather than anything else. The Rams also struggle in the air, winning 3.3 less aerial duels than Blackburn on average per game this season. Both teams average a low end 11.3 shots per game, so we can probably expect a smaller scoreline than the Barnsley fixture - but that's just guessing. Quote

Lenihan v Williams v Nyambe please. Edited December 2, 2019 by Wegerleswiggle Quote
roversfan99 Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Fair play for going to the effort but im not sure it is fair to compare players that are all playing in different positions. Bradley Dack is the best player at the club, 100%. 3 Quote

Downing across all areas of the pitch is showing himself to be our most consistent player. Quote
only2garners Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 That would fit with my view too. I missed the first 3 home games but have seen all the others and Preston and Stoke away and Downing has comfortably been our best player across those games. 1 Quote

Just went with completely new template, new players, all defenders so opted for a less diverse statistical approach. I guess what that proves though is that stats can make most people look good if manipulated in the right way! Quote

Personally I think Adarabioyo is better than Williams and we need to makes the most of him because he won’t be here for long. 3 Quote
