jim mk2 Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Surprised no one has started a thread on this. Another member of England's one and only World Cup-winning team has gone. Alan Ball, Ray Wilson, Gordon Banks, Bobby Moore, Martin Peters. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50880336 Saw him play at Ewood. A class player. Quote

bazza Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Known as "The ghost", Alf Ramsey could see something in him that we supporters couldn't at the time. Of course, Alf knew better. R.I.P. Martin Quote
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Very sad, he wasn't really that old. He suffered from Alzheimers according to the radio. Another victim of heading the old balls ? Quote
arbitro Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Another great player (and person by all accounts) passing away. He was so graceful and he seemed to glide around the pitch.I RIP. Quote

Another victim of heading the old balls ? Possibly. Though I'm pretty sure that 99% of people with Alzheimer's haven't ever headed a ball. The truth is that doctors and so-called experts still haven't got a clue. Quote
bazza Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 I tried to identify the past players on the pitch before the Spurs v Chelsea game and only got Pat Jennings and Ossie Ardiles. Can anyone help with the rest, especially the chap nearest the camera? Quote

Only those of us who played with that sort of ball know how heavy it got when wet. Quote
