It wasn't as easy then though Mike. The amount of coaching roles in pro football must have gone up ten fold in the last Forty years.

The advent of academies has seen the numbers increase massively. I saw a photo the other day of the dugout when Jim Iley was here. There were three people in it, Iley, the trainer/physio (they did both jobs then) and the obligatory one substitute. Now there so many in the technical areas including medics, analysts and none playing squad members it's impossible to know who is who.

I watched the 1987 Cup Final on ITV yesterday and saw a Coventry player called Mickey Gynn. I read that he became a postman after retiring as did Neil Webb. I remember a player called David Hillier who played at Arsenal and Portsmouth amongst others. He became a fireman.

Even pre-massive money though, it seemed a relatively rare thing for a top star to go into coaching.

In those times a lot of players coming to the end of their playing days where gifted businesses such as shops or pubs , so they concentrated on those.

Take time making the case for cooler, edgier marketing and you get threads with titles like this bumped up to page 1. ? Why don't you just draw a picture of someone with a flat cap to go with it?

This is a throwback thread. A bit of nostalgia for interested fans. Ideally with a few photos.

It doesn’t need to become another thread hijacked for your anti-parochial ideals.

Didn't I read a post from you saying that you weren’t coming back to Rovers anyway and were going to watch other clubs (but not City so that’s ok)?

Patronising people isn't a "throwback".

If it bothers you so much, why keep reading. Show some self-control and ignore the item. This is a rhetorical question.

What you need to bear in mind is not everybody posting on here got dealt the same hand when it came to grey matter. Some got short changed. Once you look at things in that light you become more understanding.

How is it patronising people to be proud of our club’s history? This club was shaped by these people who you look down on for something as obscure and trivial as wearing a flat cap - the uniform of their generation.

More patronising is being told how to “fan” by some who ditched us to go and watch City at a time when we really needed support.

Your attempts to tell us how we should be doing it are, at best, hollow I’m afraid.

I didn't get short changed. It's true what you say in general though some people definitely got short changed. One of my neighbours for instance is such a moron he's definitely in that category. I've tried to be understanding though he could have been physically abused as a kid or worse.

I agree, some got short changed at birth, some get short changed through their life experiences. I try not to be judgmental but I'm not always successful.

Some familiar faces there Mark! Dave Smith never misses a photo opportunity ???

Haha, yep. That was in the centre of the city, mid day before the game that evening. The night before we tried to get taxis into Ankara but the first taxi driver basically pulled a gun on those in his car and kicked them out. All a bit scary, so we ended up staying in the hotel ? We stuck together in that group and, if I remember correctly, Gav and Debs joined us on day two.

Looks like Damien Duff was there in the middle.

That’s my Norwegian mate Bjarte. He was a mad keen Rovers fan for years and helped set up the Norwegian supporters club. Haven’t seen him in years and I don’t think he has any interest at all now. Used to post on here under the name pennyduff. Duffer was his favourite player. (I’m the slaphead to his left in the shades ?)

Yes we flew up from the Turkish resort of 'Side' and happened to be on the same plane as 'Waggy' and his mate Gordon (Pair of nutters, but very funny :D)

We stayed in the middle of the City with Tris - Good trip as always, spoilt by the football and a painful encounter with a couple of locals swinging a baseball bat at 4am.

They can't takeaway those memories CLB.

Don't Liverpool have a throw-in coach?

Moving house currently and came across these, the one on Bolton Road was ours, got chased down the railway line by the police towards The Manxman pub just as the burnley escort came past the Infirmary, happy days, never did get to empty those tins of blue and white paint.

The other was on M65 near whitebirk, not ours but superb.

We went up, they didn't.

Some belters here. Lots of recently discovered Rovers photos from 50's and 60's...and a few from some lesser teams.

Ally looks a bit cold!

Superb Hoochie, great find.
