I still feel bitter about the league's and Scudamore's lack of action when we so desperately needed them. 9 Quote

Not missing the premier league but I am missing Rovers in the Championship. I haven't complained about a Mogga lineup in forever! Most importantly, I'm missing playing football. Quote

The frontline NHS staff and care workers are having to wait longer according to the article. If this is true it's another reason to dislike football. £4m to get to the front of the queue ahead of NHS staff. ‘Colonel’ Captain Tom put more money in than them! And all because of Liverpool and Leeds IMHO. Here we all were hoping that the pandemic might have seen a massive change in football but it’s just the same as ever. 3 Quote

tonygreenbank Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 I am really opposed to declaring this season null and void and also opposed to this AI approach to working out the results of matches still to be played. Why can we not wait for the all clear before resuming football? This may entail waiting for a vaccine or perhaps the new tracker app may ease everybody’s fears and lead to an ending of lockdown. The Government see football as “bread and circuses” to raise the morale of a significant portion of society. How can football resume within the social distancing guidelines even behind closed doors? It may take many more months and the EFL clubs need financial support but in my opinion we have to wait. The 2020-21 season can be put on hold. This current season has to be completed properly however long that might be. Quote

Once they are given the all clear they’ll need to stay away from other (non-football) people. Should be very easy when they don’t need to go to the supermarket. I certainly don’t see behind-closed-doors matches raising morale for anyone but Liverpool and Leeds. Which seems to be all that matters. 2 Quote
Popular Post Peter Posted May 10, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 10, 2020 (edited) Footballers are remarkably well remunerated in this day and age and it’s not an enviable task putting up a defence for them.... However. These are young men, many with young families. Coronavirus is a force majeure if ever there was one, and as such the clubs and ergo players should not be held to ransom to fulfil the remainder of the season, in a way so far removed from how intended, by the broadcasters. Players secrete blood, sweat and tears on the field of play; to say that a contact sport of this nature and so-called magnitude with huge stakes can be resumed with this unstable and potentially fatal backdrop is pure ill-considered and avarice-driven folly. Many Clubs are reportedly teetering on disaster indeed. The answer is a long overdue reform of the game. Sensible caps on player and executive salaries worldwide. Panic-powered circus-like utterly tedious transfer windows scrapped. Reduced ticket prices in tandem with it. The tail has wagged the dog for long enough. A game that was once for the working man, a game that once was about clubs and the badge on your replica shirt primarily, has become all too money-orientated since the advent of the Premier League and that has filtered down the pyramid; the impressionable Championship evidently sees itself as “PL2” such is the regularity it is praised and the money involved, with many clubs selling the proverbial farm in order to put themselves in contention for the utopian desire of Premier League football. Again, the generous remuneration of players is not their fault, more so the broadcasters who have thrown money around like Halloween confectionary and emboldened players’ agents and representatives and their demands. The game was thought to be in rude health in this mercantile era, but I’m fairly sure there’ll be a lot of trouser-soiling in football boardrooms throughout the country - and the desperation to thrust these young men into the bosom of pathogens lethal enough to take the lives of over 30,000 people in just the United Kingdom - rather buttresses that view. The game really is showing it’s backside here and you have to question how it has been allowed to evolve into this unremitting and unfriendly “Frankensteins Monster” Edited May 10, 2020 by Rolo PB 12 Quote

Uddersfelt Blue Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Not missing football in general? Really? I can’t believe any genuine football fan would say that! Quote
AllRoverAsia Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 I'm just turned 68, followed Rovers and Football all my life and lived and worked crazy hours just to watch a game. The PL and now PL2 oversell and the V years have taken their toll. I am missing Cricket more than poncy Football. Quote

I am not saying it will, but maybe this will lead to a decrease in attendance, but an increase in passion, from the ones that do attend. Quote

I think there is a wider issue that traditional fans are sick of. They're sick of the game turning into a Hollywood style set up where people idolise the player (or actor) above the team (or film). They are sick of such players being the gods of know nothings from India or Canada because they once saw a Real Madrid vs. Man City game. They're sick of Paul Pogba being an Instagram star as much as playing the game. They're sick of clubs like PSG, only formed in 1975 being supported by people from Huddersfield who have no idea the latter have ever won the league. They're sick of the money, the corrupt agents and all of that sort of thing. I find it difficult to care about the game beyond this club when it is so broken myself at times. 5 Quote

Waggy76 Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 (edited) An interesting aside , Brighton confirm a 3rd player tested positive for coronavirus ... Edited May 10, 2020 by Waggy76 Quote
Blue blood Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 The other issue with the testing is that it isn't enough. Given it only spots positive tests between days 1 and 5 of symptoms whilst it is far, far better than nothing, it is far from failproof. Obviously weekly testing hugely increases the chances of catching those with the virus (although for any amount of money why on earth this possibility should go to the footballers over the NHS is beyond me) but for the first couple of weeks, the chance of cross infections are pretty high imo.
