One of the pubs down the road have bought a chip van to try & get a little bit of income (also serving takeaway draught & bottled beers!). they were looking for an assistant and they saw her post on FB looking for part time work so gave her a ring. She worked Thurs, Fri & Sat evenings - the queues were all across the car park & halfway down the road! they made a killing & are looking at keeping it even after lockdown. No more "Dad, I'm bored!" or "Dad, can I have some money!" Not the Dog Inn at whittle by any chance? Quote

Norbert Rassragr Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 Sounds like a similar set up to a pub in Coventry I go to. In there, you queue up like a soup kitchen with empty flasks, bottles etc and you get real ale or cider supplied. The problem is there's a park about 3 metres away and on a nice day people sit out there together and have a drink with no social distancing. Quote
Backroom Mike E Posted June 12, 2020 Author Backroom Posted June 12, 2020 Handicap down to 16 today, broke 90 for the first time in 3 years! 3 Quote
gumboots Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 Celebrated my grandsons 4th birthday with him yesterday, all suitably distanced. Superheroes of Sale sent Captain America, the Incredible Hulk and Batwoman to visit him. Fantastic! 6 Quote

gumboots Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 (edited) I wasnt there when she appeared. The Superheroes of Sale have been doing a great job. They're a group of runners who do daily runs dressed as superheroes. You can ask them to come and say Happy Birthday to your child and they publish their routes, call at peoples houses, knock and stand at a distance for photos. Theyve raised over £5K for Ronald McDonald House so far and brought a lot of fun to a lot of kids who cant celebrate their birthday as they normally would. Edited June 13, 2020 by gumboots 3 Quote
Ossydave Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 That sounds brilliant, its heartbreaking that kids can't have their usual parties anymore ? My daughter used to get invited to one most weeks through school and absolutely loved the whole occasion. Quote
Backroom Popular Post Mike E Posted June 20, 2020 Author Backroom Popular Post Posted June 20, 2020 Can go public now, Mrs E is pregnant was my inspiration for this thread, but ofc we couldn't tell anyone til the first scan. 14 Quote
gumboots Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 I did wonder Mike because you got married round about the same time as my son, and when I said they were expected a baby, the thought flitted through my brain. Huge congratulations and best wishes to you both. 1 Quote

Dreyski Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 Congrats Mike! Stock up on sleep while you still can... Quote
gumboots Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 Yes. I'd advise 22 hours a day from now on. It's the last chance you'll get for some time. Quote
Ossydave Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 My now 3 month old sleeps from about 10pm till 8 or 9am most nights, her sister was the same. Guess it's just pot luck! Quote
gumboots Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 I got all of my 4 sleeping through from 10 till 6 most nights within a couple of months but before that theyd wake up every 2 hours. My grandson took nearly a year to start sleeping through and I dont think my youngest grandson ever sleeps for more than 4 hours at a time and hes nearly 3 Quote
windymiller7 Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 Congrats Mike. All the best to you & Mrs E. Just a thought, like we have Millenials, will babies born from say Christmas 2020 to Easter 2021(or even Summer 2021) be known as Coronials? ? Quote
only2garners Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 Our eldest was sleeping through from about 10 weeks - all he did was sleep and eat. Come to think of it he's not changed much yet and he'll be 37 soon. His brother never slept through more than an odd night until he was 5. I always thought it was nature's way of encouraging us to have a second but not a third. Congratulations and good luck Mike! Quote

gumboots Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 Weve just booked ferry to France for late July. Fingers crossed. Quote
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Jet 2 keep cancelling our flights to Spain, then they want to charge us a £35 fee for re-booking a new flight. On top of that they want to increase the cost of the new flights by £50 per person. Just because they're wearing a mask it doesn't mean they can rob people. According to my wife we are being charged another £135 for a problem that isn't of our making ! Quote

According to my wife we are being charged another £135 for a problem that isn't of our making ! We had a fly stay holiday cancelled by jet2 and they gave us the option of getting our money back, which they have to do legally, which we took and got our money back. Can you not do that then book again? we also had flights cancelled by Ryanair which we were going to claim our money back for, but the villa we had booked to go with it pointed out that the airlines must offer you alternative flights. We rebooked with no extra cost. Quote
