Herbie6590 Posted February 1, 2022 Author Posted February 1, 2022 Rovers travel to Elland Road in August 1989. Look out for SuperAtko ghosting into the box & a Leeds midfield containing a veteran, a movie star & a young tyro... 2 Quote

Gav Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 (edited) I went on the train, you had to have your wits about you even with 40 of your mates in tow, hostile place Leeds. The Boxing Day? game around the same time when Rovers came back from 0-2 down was probably the best atmosphere I’ve experienced following Rovers away, 4000+ Rovers fans packed behind the goal, great memories. Just checked, it wasn't boxing day: Leeds United v Blackburn Rovers, 27 February 1988 Score 2-2 Competition League Division Two Attendance 23,843 Edited February 2, 2022 by Gav 1 Quote

I was in The Lowfield Stand that day Gav with Ian Battersby, amongst the Leeds faithful....when Rovers scored their first (Sellers I think), we were out of our seats to be confronted by a wall of Leeds skinheads who appeared from nowhere. Prior to that we'd all been having a jovial chat! After that we both sat on our hands and could only smile when we equalised and try to look pissed off! As you say, Elland Road was a scary place, even worse when you were sat amongst them! Seconded only back then I think by Burnden Park! Quote

When they climbed the fences, crossed the pitch, stopped at the edge of our penalty area and then applauded us?.....I breathed a big sigh of relief! 😂 2 Quote

What was more frightening, was a game in the 76/77 season. After the game walking the streets of Bermondsey, trying to find the underground station. Later in life I lived in Essex, and got to know a few Millwall lads. I actually won a raffle at the new den, when we beat them in the cup (0-1 Andy Cole) Edited February 1, 2022 by rigger 1 Quote

Patty tells a good story about that game in his book. We got escorted to London Bridge station in a police personnel carrier after that game. Cockney wankers. 1 Quote

I think a boxing day game v Boro. Knob head Rovers fans throwing things over the wall and they kicked in a big wooden gate. The Street outside was cordoned off for our coaches but we had parked the car on a church car park. That walk was bloody scary and I saw all sorts of stuff. 4000 from rovers that day... I think the game ended 1-1. 1 Quote

Mowbray played for Boro that day. 1 Quote

I remember that Patrik Andersson played. I decided to tag along with a couple of my dad's mates. They had decided after a few beers the night before that they were going. They asked me. I went. We got to Maine Road, tickets only for away fans, no sale on the day. For some daft reason we decided to pay to go on the Kippax. An interesting afternoon. Quote

Newall and Phelan OG according to the record book. Our team was - Flowers.Sherwood, Hendrey, Moran, Marker, Anderson, Atkins, Dobson, Wegerle, Newall, Wilcox. Ireland came on as sub for Marker. Cowan was an unused sub. Make a team out of that lot. I can’t. No wonder we lost. Quote

How about this; Flowers Marker Hendry Moran Dobson Atkins Sherwood Andersson Wilcox Wegerle Newell I wouldn't like to get on the wrong side of that back 4. Here's the season Wikipedia; BRFC 1992-93 Of those in the squad that played it looks like Ripley, May, Berg, Wright, and of course Shearer, were out. Quote

Just proves you don’t have to be a flier to be effective out wide. Of course today he’d be playing on the right and coming inside all day. Quote

A Rovers player was fouled in the build up to City's first, around the 35 second mark. Moran's foul for the pen was outside the box. Robbed by the ref's again. Quote
