I was at that end it was total confusion. I thought the ball went through a hole or a gap in the net, which is what the officials are meant to check for pre kick-off.

I heard a fan went up to the back of the net, pulled the ball out and threw it back on the pitch.

I used to watch the ‘Dale a lot then if Rovers weren’t playing and I remember going to a league 4 game against Brighton ( yes that Brighton ) and there was a melee after a corner. The ball ended up in the back of the net and the ref gave a goal but the Brighton players claimed the ball had fallen in through a hole in the roof of the net. They demanded he consult his linesmen.

So he goes over to the linesman, they have a chat, then the ref comes back and gives a penalty ! Cue more mayhem. Somebody had pushed the ball over the bar with their hand and it’d dropped into the goal through the hole apparently.

It's a shame that in todays ridiculous technology/digital age that the above couldn't be re-released in some sort of magazine/bound booklet.

My wife bought me - “ Football History told through Newspaper Headlines - Blackburn Rovers “ for Xmas a few years ago. It’s a similar sort of thing. It wasn’t cheap though. At the moment it’s £54.99 less 25% discount. It’s not worth that. £25 would be about right.

The club have probably ordered the LET to destroy all evidence they have on our successes.

We’ve seen this before, but what a day of football:

I was at the Dingle Dome watching Utd get hammered.  I didn’t even know we’d played until I overheard two old blokes discussing our result. We’d kicked off early.

Anyone remember  Rovers v Newcastle at Ewood think early 90s Darwen end was being constructed and a Newcastle fan climbed to the top of a girder to put a Toon Army flag on it? Seem to remember the police waiting at the bottom and the match wouldn't start till he got down lol
