Does anyone know if the "Blackburn Rovers FC" stone carving by Jack is the original from the early days? 

Also was anything saved from the old Ewood park? Turnstiles? Seats? Gates or anything that can be seen today of the old ewood park? Love anything like this.

What's your first memory of Rovers/Ewood Park.

Mine is from late 1976, when my dad took me to my first game at Ewood Park. I was 6 at the time.

We sat upstairs in the old Riverside stand, on the long wooden benches, that they had then. I have no idea who we were playing or the result.

I have this memory that has stuck with me of the last 48 years, of watching David Wagstaffe; for Rovers, running down the wing, juggling the ball on his head during the game.

As an aside, I didn't know, until looking back, that David Wagstaff was the first professional footballer to be shown a red card, whilst playing for Rovers against Leyton Orient on the 2nd October 1976.

I've had season tickets for the old Riverside, the new Riverside, the old Blackburn End, the new Blackburn End, upper and lower stands, the old Nuttall Street stand, the new Jack Walker stand but I still keep getting drawn back to watching from the Riverside stand, maybe it's that first memory that keeps me going back.

My first Rovers memory was the Play Off final against Leicester. I had diarrhea and so my dad had to keep taking me to the toilet and miss the game. The only part I remember is the goal. I was stood on a seat to watch it but when everyone jumped up to celebrate I fell down the back and got stuck and cried and nobody realised. Still a great memory.

 

The next earliest memory I have is the season after attending my first home game. My dad wanted to see if I was old enough to understand and value what was happening. He was enjoying the game, looked to the side and saw me with a straw poking a pie that had fallen on the floor.

 

I didn't go again regularly until a couple of seasons later when I had my first season ticket and we won the league

the 1978/80 season,promotion under kendall and that really good cup run,i remember sitting on my dads shoulders when we played coventry in the 4th rnd,their disgusting cream and brown away kit and crawfords goal,been hooked ever since,though it`s finally coming to an end after 15 years of the chicken abusers

always been grateful that my dad took us all to ewood,it was only 15 minutes from our house,as a bolton lad he could easily have chosen burnden park,imagine the years of misery supporting that lot😫

Yeah we had some poor left wingers back in the day. Don Hutchins, a Brian Hill clone. John Aston, he’d been a good player at Utd, my man of the match in the Euro Final against Benfica, but injuries had reduced him significantly.

I also remember him chesting one in from 2 yards out when he obviously didn’t want to put his head on it.

Mine was the 74/75 3rd Div championship season. Don't remember too much tbh. Was too young for away games. My first game was Charlton Ath. Started in Riverside stand and remember we all used to stamp our feet to make some noise. Moved onto Blackburn End to stand up. Once I was tall enough we finished up on the Riverside terrace on the half way line - teddy bear dismemberment a special memory!! Then back into the new Riverside stand to complete the circle.

It was 1980 but I can't remember which month, other than it was sunny. My dad and I had season tickets in the old Nuttall Street stand, in the row immediately behind the old directors box, which was quite wide but only had two rows.

As the directors box filled up, an elderly gentleman came to take his seat in the directors box right in front of me. He turned round and spoke to me in a heavy Scottish accent. He asked me, (I was 9-10 years old) if I played football. I replied I did but not very well. He said to keep practicing and one day I might be out there on the pitch. He sat down and my dad said, "Do you know who that was ?" I had no idea. "Bill Shankly," said my dad.

I never did practice hard enough, maybe I should have.

Saturday September 30th 1961. V Sheffield Utd at Ewood. My dad was a coach driver for Charles Holts coach tours and he was friendly with a retired lady teacher who lived in Bacup that had been on one of the tours. Her son Jack was a Rovers fan and he took me. It was a lovely autumn day, very much like last Saturday’s weather. Ewood looked a picture in the sunshine, the new Blackburn End cantilever stand was just opened. Rovers looked great in their blue and white kit, contrasting nicely with Sheff U’s red and white stripes. The PA was belting out the hits of the day before the game.

At the end of the game somebody had smuggled in a bugle and he blew a perfect rendition of the “ Last Post “ ! You don’t get that today !

It wasn’t much of a game, I can’t remember anything about the actual match at all but I know we lost 2-1.  It didn’t really matter though, I was hooked. I’d come home !

I must admit, I always thought my first game was in 1983 - I knew it was the 82/83 season, however it turns out it was actually 16/10/82. A 3-0 win against Chelsea, Garner with a brace & Kevin Stonehouse. I can't find the Rovers lineup for that day but the main things I remember was being in the old Riverside stand with my Dad with the smell of pipe tobacco wafting up every few minutes and a bit of a scrap going on in the BBE, presumably with some Chelsea fans who'd got in there.

I managed to find a few details from a Chelsea site, which shows a young David Speedie in the Chelsea team that day! Attendance? a whopping 6,062!

All that really mattered to me that day was that I knew I wanted to back again. I was hooked.
