I managed to find a few details from a Chelsea site, which shows a young David Speedie in the Chelsea team that day! Attendance? a whopping 6,062!

All that really mattered to me that day was that I knew I wanted to back again. I was hooked.

That definitely looks about right. Although I don't really remember Barton, it was always Glen for me in my early memories.

Mike Jackman’s “ Blackburn Rovers, a complete history “. I would have thought the club shop would have similar books. I bought that in 1990. I also have an up dated version that I bought in about 2010.

Dave Barton came on loan from Newcastle. He only played 8 games for us.

Another memory that has stuck with me, of sitting behind the directors box in 1980, was before a game, the "dignitaries" came up to the directors box area. One was a man wearing what looked to me as a 9-10 year old boy, a very expensive navy blue suit, shirt and tie and a matching navy blue overcoat. I'd never seen such an immaculately dressed man before. He just screamed money and class.

My dad asked me if I knew who he was, I was thinking, captain of industry or a prime minister, no it was Trevor Francis, the first million pound footballer. Signed by Nottingham Forest, 12 months before. Boy he certainly looked a million pounds worth. 

It was nice that he made an effort to look good as he was going to Ewood Park.

I was there. The relief when David May scored the equaliser was immense! Interesting to see how seriously the 'big' teams took all competitions then compared to now.

Even from those highlights, watching Batty put his foot on the ball, make a simple pass, gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. 

Those bastards in Pune can't take away our memories Tyrone.

The other thing those highlights show is the myth around the moneybags tag. Ian Pearce winning goal, David May equalising goal. Money spent in the key areas but bargains used elsewhere.

I’ve just watched a short feature on the BBC News at 1 about the impact of footballers developing dementia due to heading the ball. It featured our very own Tony Parkes and Alan Gilliver. It’s so sad to see the effect this devastating condition has on individuals and their families. It certainly brought a tear to my eye seeing them now and how I remembered them wearing the blue and white shirt. God bless them.

In the future, I wonder what ailments will be put down to hitting the ground too many times ?
