Not football, but one thing that spings to mind looking at those pictures. Where have all the chimneys gone ?

That’s because we have gone from a world leader in producing goods to a nation of pen pushers and service industries.

technology has reduced the need for human interaction in manufacturing, you don`t see 100`s of blokes clocking out of the local steelworks or similar anymore, liverpool docks handle more cargo than they`ve ever done with a staff of less than a hundred ,there must have been over a thousand working there at one time

It was really, a rhetorical question.

Some great photos there - I love that one of Fred Pickering celebrating with the fans, I was behind the goals in both halves.

Greavsie fancied himself as dog whisperer. He also caught the one in the Brazil v England World Cup game in 1962 but the dog pissed on him !

Dogs running on was quite a frequent occurrence back then. When did we last a dog on the pitch at Ewood ? Four legged ones only.

Ah Pickering is the number 9. I couldn't just work out who that would be. He has exactly the same build and raw, powerful look as the young Shearer.

Those boys coming out onto the pitch, the excitement and sense of freedom. What a time that must be. Those you g fans would have been born in the late 40's,  early 50's.

Just fantastic.

I seem to remember a chicken not that long ago!

Fred was a terrific player. The comparison with Shearer is very apt. They were very similar players, both had a terrific shot in their right foot. Fred had the ability to go past people with deft footwork were Shearer just went through them.

The great Danny Blanchflower is one of those photos I think. Totally destroyed by Duggie and crew that day.

ferguson, Pickering and Mike Harrison celebrating in another.

I think that game finished Danny Blanchflower. He was trailing in Dougie’s wake all the game. It wasn’t long before Spurs went out and bought Alan Mullery to replace him. The story was at the time that after the game Bill Nicholson, the Spurs manager, said to the Rovers directors - “ Name your price for Douglas “. Allegedly there were prepared to break the British transfer record to sign him.

I agree with everything said about the game and that Rovers team. I hate to put a damper on it, but that lot at the turd also beat Spurs 7-2 the same season.

but did that lot at the Turd then go on and beat Bobby Moore’s West Ham 8-2 (8-3?) at Upton Park in the same season?

Dont mention a couple of days later. That doesn’t matter.🙂

again, that was no ordinary West Ham team. Moore, Hurst and Peters.

I wonder if anyone here went or knew anyone that went?

26th December 1963. West Ham 2 - 8 Blackburn Rovers.

They played on Boxing Day morning so not many would have travelled down from Blackburn. I was at the Burnley v Man Utd game later that day when I heard the score. I didn’t even know we were playing in the morning ! No instant communications in those days.

I went to the return fixture at Ewood a couple of days later. Least said about that the better !

I've tried searching to no avail and any help appreciated.

Someone in here at some point posted a great website where they had hosted a load of old Rovers videos/DVDs - can't for the life of me remember the name of it and lost the bookmark I had.

Any help appreciated (it wasn't YouTube).

I am specifically looking for the 'time to say goodbye' Jack Walker tribute from 2000 which they showed on the big screen before the Norwich game. Think the famous poem is contained in the same video.

I think what you're looking for is at the start of this video:

The page that had the old Videos/DVD's is below. If you click on 'date published' in the drop down they should appear:

Back then New Years Day was not a National Bank Holiday, but many (most?) large firms in this area worked on Boxing Day and instead closed on New Year’s Day. If you didn’t turn in on Boxing Day, you didn’t get paid for Christmas Day.

As a result many fans couldn’t make it but an old pal of mine, who I travelled to lots of away games with, was able to go. Even now, at 89 years, he can recall every detail of the game

What would be brilliant would be to hear from someone who was at both the Spurs and West Ham games. Such as Duggie🙂

Ive no idea how Bryan’s health is or whether anyone on here is in contact. That would be great though.

Trying to think who’s still alive from that team. Mike England is I think. Andy McEvoy?
