On this day 21 years ago:

My younger son’s first three Rovers games were Rovers 3 Barcelona 2, Rovers 7 West Ham 1 and this one; Not a bad little start for him eh? 😜

What a start for the lad. I'm sure he's just as grateful to you today for taking him back then 😁.

So grateful he’s now a season ticket holder at Celtic Park…

He does still get to 5 or 6 Rovers games every season too tbf

That may depend on who or what you have in mind 😁

😀 well football obviously.

I don’t see why we can’t expand a bit. If mods aren’t happy, then please remove. Here we go. Pitches that yesteryears footballers had to contend with.

Is there any objection to opening this up to non rovers related nostalgia?

As long as it's not about Burnley winning the league in 1960

I recognise Fred but who are the other two? Don't the strips look great with no sponsors.

1950s boots - I’m presuming no one remembers these 😁

With studs that were nailed in and to keep the leather boots supple plenty of dubbin.

I believe the North End player is Bill Cranston. Tommy Hutchinson was MOTM.

Certainly do. The most uncomfortable things ever. Leather was Rick hard.

*rock hard.

I’ve never heard of dubbin - to save me a Google what was it?

A sort of very soft wax, to make leather waterproof and supple.

Hutch could be a real handful. He gave Keith Newton a hard time on more than one occasion. He had this trick were he’d be running at full speed with the ball, then he’d appear to over run the ball. When the defender hesitated he’d bring the ball through with his trailing foot and he’d be gone.

I watched him a few times and he fooled me every time with that trick.
