Miller11 Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 There is a big pattern here... Kean’s first full season in charge we started with N’Zonzi at centre half and Jerome’s son on the bench before we signed Vukcevic, Yakubu, Dann and Slew all after the season had started. The following Season was underway before we signed Rhodes. Following year and Cairney was very late, Marshall the season was already underway, and Gestede came in November. Duffy, Steele and Tunnicliffe all signed on deadline day the next year. The next year we were signings some real horror shows. Tom Lawrence was late, most of the others (Guthrie, Akpan, Delfouneso) were quite early. Mixed bag the next year with Stokes, Feeney and Greer being done pretty quickly, but Mulgrew, Williams and Brown all after kick off. Similar case with loan signings. League one was the only time our business was done in a timely manner. Back to form with Reed, Brereton and Rodwell. Then there was last year where despite being on the verge of signing for at least a month, Tosin wasn’t in in time to start the season. Then there was the whole Mulgrew and Cunningham deadline day stuff. This may go some way to explaining why we never start the season well. Clearly not something that can be blamed on Mowbray. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that since Venky’s came along our entire set up around transfers is clearly a bit off. 5 Quote

In that time we have a new number one keeper on a longterm deal, a highly promising winger who is pushing for 1st team recognition already, have signed a promising young forward on a free, have made offers for players that haven't panned out (it happens), have made headway in moving on high earners who aren't pushing for 1st team selection as much as they should be and have clearly set out what we are looking for in budget without being bullied by player or other clubs. I would rate Mowbray and co's success at present a B- All very commendable but we still don't have the quality defenders we desperately need. Until that is addressed it's a C from me. 1 Quote

I would rate Mowbray and co's success at present a B- How can you possibly include the lads from Celtic and Preston as signings? You’ve been caught up in the Ewood spin. The fact is four or five years later we have exactly (bar Bell, which says it all) the same defence as that moron Coyle left us with. Mowbray is incapable, unwilling, unable, who knows, to strengthen our defence. Even though it has been garbage since he joined, apart from when it had an easier ride in League One. The same old sh@te will be pedalled when we’ve signed no one again or gone premier league kid on loan. “Dack is like a new signing”, “Dolan’s emergence is a bonus”. “The post lockdown market is not value for money”, “we need to get the right human beings in to fit in with the group”. Blah blah blah. Same crap, different window. Boring. And we all get taken in with our ambitious attempt to sign a Wigan centre half. Maybe a smokescreen so we can pedal a sob story about how we can’t compete with PL money. It’s beyond sh&t. 16 Quote

Nevermind half empty, your glass is smashed! Bit more than that. We need two CBs, at least one LB, another keeper and that's a minimum. Ideally we would be looking to improve in other areas too rather than sticking with the same old. So there's 4 signings needed and quickly. Given it seems to take weeks and weeks to get one done and with the League kicking off in 9 days time it really is a shocking situation to be in. The excuses will come thick and fast. First it will be telling people to wait until October when the window closes. Then there will be sob stories about Covid 19, no money, FFP, travel restrictions, quarantine, unusual circumstances, targets getting poached by other clubs, the stars not aligning as hoped. Everyone else can find a way to get the bare minimum in the building. Our scenario has been unfolding before our eyes for 2 years and we still haven't solved it. 11 Quote

I remember Nuttall having a blinder at morecambe once pre season. We need proper signings immediately. Quality CB, CM and LB , and we just seem to be getting lightweights. 2 Quote

Still plenty of time for deals to go through. the season starts next weekend. By mid October we could be stuck towards the bottom or competing at the top. Aren't you fed up with starting every season slowly and poorly. For once in a decade it would be nice to have our squad ready and raring to go on game one. Never happens and we will be scrambling around in the last couple of days for essential additions. 2 Quote

Bohinen 22 Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Fans are fed up with the same old bullish&t every transfer window. And we really think Tony is going to play Dolan. He’ll grind all the enthusiasm out of him like he’s done with Chapman. And then it’ll be back to Gallagher on the wing. 5 Quote

Why always scrambling around at the last minute and ending up with those at the bottom of any list. It doesn't need in-depth research to know that we needed defenders urgently. Its going to be yet another season of limping along somewhere in mid-table----if we're lucky. And its killing the Club. 7 Quote

We are signing players based on scouting and data analysis not using agents like previous managers. Other managers are struggling to bring players in like Neil Warnock at Boro or Monk cant bring in the number 9 he wants, Karanka no 1st choice keeper, Alex Neil cant bring in the quality striker he wants, or Huddersfield. 1 Quote

I suspect that considering that you were bigging up the signing of a kid with 20 or so senior experiences, your previous staunch defence of a very negligible improvement in terms of points and goals conceded, and your seemingly untold faith and trust in the clubs precise recruitment network and the manager in spite of his historical failure to fix our defence, that our standards regarding fixing our defence this season in order to support a top 6 finish may be slightly different. If he's the honourable man he claims to be he'd walk away from the club if, during every transfer window, the Venky's are withholding funds until the last minute. Either he knows the budget and has it to spend, or he has a very small contacts book and is poor at convincing people to join Blackburn Rovers. No manager worth his salt (unless he's just here to top up his pension) sits there transfer window after transfer window being made to look a mug by the owners. 3 Quote

Can't remember the last player we biught who was not really young or old. We need players at their peak....mowbray seems unable to bring those players in....we need a bunch of 27, 28,29 year olds who can kick the shit out of teams 2 Quote

Yet again, the good work being done by Mowbray is being overlooked / selectively ignored or brushed off as being pure good luck, with the less successful work (to date) being Mowbray's fault. The man can't win. If he's going to be hung out to dry for signings, team selections & tactical decisions that go wrong (as managers should be), he should also be credited for what goes well; it's just basic fairness. Yet he's the one who gets criticism for a perceived lack of integrity / decency for continuing to work for Venkys... 3 Quote
