I think there's every chance JRC will develop into a solid first teamer for us, but world class? Come on now. If that was true the lad wouldn't be here only just breaking into the first team at 21. More likely he'll end up at a similar level to Travis, I'd think.

Develop into a first teamer?

He should be the first name on the sheet.

Clearly you don't know much about him. He had always been highly regarded but had been out injured for a long time.

Travis is a grafter but not as naturally talented.

JRC reminds me a little of Gareth Bale; extremely talented and can play anywhere.

I doubt many people on here know that much about him, unless you've closely followed his career and attended the matches he played for United's youth team and Rovers u18s/u23s. If you have then fair play, if not then we just have differing opinions. We'll see how he progresses, but as it stands I'd be happy for him to have a similar impact to Travis. If he becomes even better then great.

I'm not, there just is no evidence of us going for Mawsom and Kipre

There's loads of evidence of us going for Kipre. If you mean absolute cast-iron proof, maybe there isn't, but there rarely is for moves that don't work out. Evidence is a different thing to absolute proof though.

I will bet on us this year for promotion.

Our young guns are ever improving.

JRC will be world class imo.

World class is a bit strong but it's used too often these days and has subsequently been watered down a fair bit.

I reserve the term World Class for the Messi's/Ronaldo's of the footballing world.

Just we spend all this time going for defenders but we have the same  back four we had in the relegation season virtually.  My view is that its all window dressing and the club won't buy defenders

AFC Bournemouth have spent £145,000,000 on transfers since 2016.
Cardiff City have spent £77,000,000 on transfers since 2016.
Nottingham Forest have spent £36,000,000 on transfers since 2016.
Swansea City have spent £115,000,000 on transfers since 2016.
Middlesbrough have spent £143,000,000 on transfers since 2016.
Brentford have spent £52,000,000 on transfers since 2016.
Hull City have spent £59,000,000 on transfers since 2016. (now in League One)
Reading have spent £31,500,000 on transfers since 2016.
Sheffield Wednesday have spent £27,800,000 on transfers since 2016.
Huddersfield Town have spent £103,500,000 on transfers since 2016.
Wigan Athletic have spent £15,500,000 on transfers since 2016. (now in League One)
Birmingham City have spent £38,500,000 on transfers since 2016.

Rovers have spent an estimated £21,500,000 on transfers since 2016. (incl. all the addons for Brereton and Gallagher that may not yet have been paid). This narrative that we're huge spenders because of two deals in 2018/19 is simply unfounded.

The list of teams who've spent more than us since 2016 far outweighs the list of teams who've spent less.

There's only us, Preston and Millwall that fit into the category of succeeding without spending too much. PNE have spent £9,500,000 since 2016, and Millwall I can't get a final figure on (but it's low).

What's the net spend? That is what you have to look. at For example Brentford will be comfortably in profit. Birmingham have sold Adams and Bellingham over the last two summers so that puts them straight into a profit.  Forest have just got £16 Million for Cash, they got £7 Million for Brereton, £4 Million for Osborne, £8 Million for Appiah and £15 million for Assombalonga. So they are in profit. This is where Mowbray has been incredibly lucky he has been given good funds to strengthen and has not had to sell any of his key players.

Also how many of those players at the likes of Middlesbrough, Huddersfield and Swansea were bought in the Premiership and have since left?

As it stands we are fighting a relegation battle from day 1! Devoid of ambition, poor commercialism, poor planning bearing in mind the season starts in a few days with what appears to be a very blasé attitude to the club, the support and the shirt.

Every team in every league are fighting relegation battles from day 1. It is just that the better teams are soon out of that battle, and start the battle for the top. I think the Rovers will be nearer the battle for the top than the bottom.

But I'm not talking about where they funded their deals from. I'm simply and only saying, with no added extras, that we haven't spent as much as other clubs in this league. We're in the same boat as your Prestons and your PNE's when you compare our budgets to the other Top half Championship teams.

Raya, Fisher, Leutwiler
Nyambe, Lenihan, Mulgrew, Williams, Grayson, P. Downing, Hart, Rodwell, Bell
Bennett, Chapman, Conway, Dack, Evans, Gladwin, Reed, Rothwell, Smallwood, Travis
Graham, Armstrong, Samuel, Brereton, Nuttall

vs

Kaminski, Fisher, Eastham
Bennett, Nyambe, Lenihan, Mulgrew, Williams, Bell, Magloire, Wharton, Carter
Johnson, Chapman, Dack, Evans, Travis, Rothwell, Dolan, Buckley, Davenport, JRC, Holtby
Armstrong, Gallagher, Brereton, Butterworth

Top squad finished 15th in the league. The bottom squad is supposedly doomed for relegation from day one? Give me a bleedin' break man!

The Duke of Wellington, inspecting his troops before Waterloo famously said "I don't know what effect they have on the enemy but By God they terrify me!"

And that's how I feel about our defence, which, without Toisin, is undoubtedly weaker than last season.

And how many goals did we concede last season?

Utter lunacy that we haven't sorted this.

I don't think we'll be relegated with that squad but we will struggle without signings and may well  be dragged towards the relegation zone.

After that, how many of our young mid-fielders will we keep?

We aren't. They've raked in tens of £millions from sales. You can't separate the two issues and then compare our budgets. Their budget includes the £millions received in sales. Incomings and Outgoings dictate budget. Not just outgoings.

But it is important to see how these clubs raise the funds to be able to spend such money. You are making it sound as simple as the Chairman saying there is a cheque for X amount now go out and spend it. Brentford couldn't spend what they have spent if they didn't sell to finance it. We could have taken the Brentford approach, no doubt if Dack played for them then they would have cashed in by now on him and spent that money on strengthening their squad. But we have chosen not to sell our key players yet we still have funds to strengthen on top of that. There are very few managers in this division who have that luxury.

Who?

Perhaps Wycombe, Rotherham, Luton, Barnsley.

Not sure who else comes into the 'folder' category

There's the 3 relegated clubs. Then sides like Forest, Derby, Brentford, Millwall, Swansea, Cardiff, Preston, Bristol City who finished above or alongside us last year.

The other 8 clubs remaining we have Warnock's Middlesbrough (likely to be up there due to him alone), Huddersfield (unknown entity), Stoke (will spend and likely to improve with their squad and manager), Birmingham (new decent manager and made some good signings), Reading (unknown entity but some good players in their squad), QPR maybe or maybe not, Coventry may struggle but have upwards momentum and Sheffield Wednesday who will be hamstrung by their points deduction but aren't a bad side on paper.

I don't see an abundance of clubs I'd put money on us finishing above. A handful maybe.

The same Warnock who resigned at Cardiff cos he get that's squad near top.6 after spending millions on Flint and Glatzal. Not guarantee he gets Boro higher than us.

Stoke will spend? They already got a massive squad and I believe they have used 30 players in pre season. Sounds like they will need outgoing of at least 6 or 7 players.

Sheffield Wednesday, Preston, Derby all need strikers in. Birmingham still needed a number 1 keeper and striker.

QPR squad look weak and lacking strikers and wide players.

Brentford look weaker up front and I'm unsure Toney will be worth the money they paid and be able to replace Watkins goals for goals. Plus Watkins and Benrahma are going. Why didn't Raya play last week game? Is he off?

Have Swansea replace Brewster as striker?

Alot teams are weaker cos they haven't replace their strikers that have left in the summer yet?

Exactly. Just one person who mention the same player in every single transfer window. Still at Doncaster currently.

The 3 you mention have improved, but they were still part of the team last season. We need to improve the squad or we won’t progress.

I hope we don’t need to rely on Wharton and Magloire as it is a recipe for disaster in the championship. They need to be used sparingly throughout the season!

i wouldn’t say I’m looking forward to the season as it stands currently!

We were comparing the 2018/19 to now. Travis, Lenihan and Armstrong all have improved since then.

I would use Wharton has part of this squad this season. Maglorie need a season of 1st team football. Maybe Bolton or Barrow would be good move for him?
