Rovers went ahead after six minutes through Jermal Johnson, then midfielder Ian Black added a second for Rovers direct from a free kick just before half time. Defender John Fitzgerald rose unchallenged on the hour to put Rovers 3 up with a header from a corner, and winger Peter Corvino wrapped it up for Rovers with a fourth one minute from time. Meanwhile youth team striker Paul Gallagher reputation is growing, scoring two goals for the reserves at Villa Park on Friday night. A hat-trick being denied when Villa keeper saved a penalty taken by Gallagher. So far this season he has scored 20 league and cup goals for the youth team. Rovers reserve team manager Alan Murray is quoted in the media as saying that Gallagher is training with the first team and impressing the manager. Whilst Souness stated on the official site that Gallagher could make his first team debut before the end of the season.
