So how much is TD on ? £2K, £4K, £6K?

With all things considered, I reckon £8K a week wouldn't be unreasonable? Any more would need to be bonus related, maybe even £8K including bonuses?

Thoughts please.

I would make him one of the highest earners in the squad. I rated him highly

He’s been unplayable at times recently, even in a dour game at Hillsborough the lad was chasing everything, never gave Wednesday players a minute and against Sunderland, first half, superb stuff.

Sign him up.

Rewarding inconsistency and general mediocrity is not the way to motivate a team; in any industry.

But the rest of the team see a team mate who is on a (relatively) shit wage, who always puts in 110%, and who (probably) can't get get an increase to what most people in the industry would consider a fair salary for a player of his ability.

And that is the way?

I should be clearer, he should get a payrise.

I don't think he should be comparable to senior pros like Trav, Hyam or Tronstad. One of the top earners at the club? Not for me.

I disagree but it all depends on how much you rate the player in question. I don't particularly rate Hyam and think he only looks any good with someone playing well alongside him such as Scott Wharton a couple of years ago or Batth (who's been a revelation). As such I wouldn't be pushing the boat out for him salary wise.

Also (stating the bleeding obvious) you also have to factor in future resale value - if for example you think Dolan has more resale potential in future than Hyam then that would encourage you to give him a deal more on parity with the higher earners.

Well argued post. I'm not sure what everyone's obsession with my opinion on Tronstad is tbh. I've always acknowledged that whilst I don't really rate him everyone else does.

I am undecided about Tronstad. He does break up play well and often seems to be in the right place at the right time. However, I think those attributes are so much in evidence because he is given zero responsibility as an attacking player. Good defensive midfielders should still contribute occasionally going forward.  I don't think he does enough in that respect.

If a creative midfielder did no defending whatsoever he would get criticised.

Can you point out where I have said Markanday is championship ready player ?

Well, if you don't, it's far stranger still to suggest someone who isn't Championship-ready to play regularly for the team you support in the Championship.

(And before you get pedantic by saying you never said he should play regularly, the player you suggest he replaces, does play regularly)

Being pedantic, what I implied was that if Dolan leaves, the Rovers will replaced him with Markanday, at a cost of nothing.

I would imagine he's on about 4-6k. I'd be totally fine paying him 8k per week and I'd consider anything up to about 10k.

We'll miss him if he leaves, of that I have no doubt.

To replace him would take more money than we could afford, the common sense thing to do would be to secure his services.

This is the thing, to replace him with someone of equal or better quality will be beyond the budget constraints that have been imposed on the club by the owners.

Jury has always been out on Dolan for me. Always industrious but lacks that 'football intelligence' in the final third.  As a result he scores fewer and creates less than he should. Both last season and this were expected to be his 'breakout' season where he suddenly scores 10 goals plus. He doesn't look like achieving that consistently-even going forwards.  Like Brereton though, at some stage in his career, he will no doubt have a one off purple patch.

No idea how much he wants (and Rovers will be offering the bare minimum) so can't hold that against him.  He's always come across as a reasonably humble lad though.  Unlike some, his injury record is also good.

IMO, In our squad, he should on parity with the like of Brittain/Hyam. He's an up and down Championship player who certainly hasn't shown enough to step up a league in the future but can be very useful on his day.

Am I bothered if he goes?  I'd much rather lose the like of Hedges, Sigurdsson, Gueye before Dolan.

However, if he won't resign and leaves for another British club,  it wouldn't be the end of the world. We'd get a chunk of compensation for a player who cost us nothing and he should go with our  best wishes.

If he went abroad for free, that would feel more frustrating.

As per usual, the club haven't been very transparent regarding negotiations.  Taking Broughton's brief tenure out of the equation,  history suggests Waggot's the best part of useless at agreeing contract extensions so Dolan going is the most likely outcome!

I’m convinced this is one of the reasons Eustace has walked, to let another very good championship player walk for nothing is criminal and with our poor budget it’s speaks volumes.

Dolan was excellent today and has been very good this season, sign the lad back up you chicken fooking arseholes.

VENKYS OUT - NOTHING ELSE MATTERS

It's like he's finally worked out the most dangerous spaces to run into. His footballing intelligence has come on significantly this year and his control has got far closer. He's obviously been working hard on those things as they don't click without work. Very happy for him

Shocking first half, excellent second half. Still absolutely no pace.

He does really need pace for the type of player he is trying to be.

He blows hot and cold. He's having a bit of a purple patch at the moment and deserves his place in the side, but I can totally understand why he would be a difficult one to renew. We will end up overspending on a player who should really be a squad player.

He was very good in the second half, but he was one of our biggest problems in the first half.

I've been his biggest critic but feel there's less pressure on him when we have pace on the other side (Kargbo)...Him and hedges offer nothing when starting together very one dimensional...I think the same for Cantwell, they needs runners...Kargbo will make such a difference for us, adds a whole different dynamic to our attack.

Dolan deserves pelters, but our whole attack has been poor apart from these last few weeks.

Dolan and Hedges are often coupled together because they are usually the 2 that start out wide. And both have had poor seasons from an attacking perspective, but Dolan has always been much more effective than Hedges, or at least more capable.

In terms of balance, it probably does suit Dolan far more to have Kargbo on the other side as mentioned above. There is then less reliance on him in attack and he also has someone on the other side opening the game up.

Hedges was never particularly good but 2 things I think have made him even less effective. Moving him to the left which is not his position. And also the 2 bad hamstring injuries have made him even slower and more unable to take people on. He needs letting go, hes not capable at this level.

Dolan probably can point to games played and expect to be towards the top earners. If so, thats an issue as he hasnt done enough to warrant that. But if we could agree some sort of deal, even though I and many others have been critical of him, at the age hes at, I wouldnt be against it.

But we dont offer new deals out anyway. So Dolan will go and Hedges will have his extenson activated.
