Not sure its fair to class games as "top 6 contenders" for both those not expected to challenge but currently in the top 6, as well as teams that are struggling but were predicted to do well. We faced Forest when they were pointless, not sure that can be classed as a defeat v a contender! I see where you're coming from but there are always one or two surprise teams every year and Reading will prob be one of those. Once they get a few injuries, they will start to struggle a bit but top 6 is a realistic possibility for them if their best players stay fit for most of the season. You don't expect Nottingham Forest and Cardiff to be around the top 6 because they are currently sitting in lowly positions after 8 games? That's just nonsensical imo. Quote

League is tight. Five or six winning games in a row can get you up there. Plus with Covid-19 around this league and form will be unpredictably. Exactly. Look at seasons gone past, the table often looks very different at the end of the season than after 8 games. Brentford were sitting in 14th after 9 games last season, for example. 3 Quote

I never said that, it just seems illogical to consider teams fancied in pre season "underachieving" and teams not fancied "overachieving" both as top 6 rivals seems a bit contradictory. Quote

Far too early to be getting hung up on league position/ result patterns . Far more relevant to know that you have a settled team with good players in a system that will work over the course of a season and with a manager who is tactically astute enough to manage it properly . The good clubs will concentrate on themselves and make sure they can defend properly when needed but have the class and firepower to impose themselves and to boss games more often than the others in the league . that simple really . Are we that team ???? Quote

Gone to seed Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Who will turn up? How will they play? Will the result spoil the day? WIll our team fight? Will they just wilt? Will we commend the sweat that is spilled? What can we do? We can but guess, whilst Mowbray and company tinker and mess.. Coventry, Derby were signs of our power.. But Reading and Watford made our lot cower Hopefully Swansea will bring out our best As TM the tinkerer is put to the test Will we be smiling a four forty five Or will our whole weekend just take a nose dive? Come on you Blues, just make do and mend and score early doors - but FOR GAWDS SAKE, DEFEND!! My apologies for the awful rhyming couplets. Was up early and bored COYB! 4 Quote

JackRaven October 30 edited October 30 Latest news on Blackburn injuries both Thomas kaminski (keeper) and daniel Ayala (CB) will not play tomorrow according to the Blackburn website. That leaves them defensively light and short (in height) at CB. Their FBs are excellent going forward but weak defensively. At CB they still have Derrick Williams but he is no giant and will probably be partnered with Lenihan. They are both below 6ft and Blackburn have been weak in the air in defence even when they have been strong in matches. Aynsley Pears their backup keeper had a torrid time last match and is only 6ft 1in tall himself. We have to push their FBs into defending and limit their opportunities going forward, Also Gyokeres could come into his own against a pair of CBs who will be at least a couple of inches shorter, put Bennett up for corners and it might be an opportunity. Whatever happens we have to stop their passing game in midfield as when they get in their stride they can be lethal. Quote

Not just this one; think back to recent surprise results in the Premier League for Liverpool and Manchester United. And yes; it is too early in the day for me to get you chapter and verse about the ones I have in mind; I'm sure you know the ones I mean!? On what's forecast to be a day not to go out if you don't have to, I've just been checking the TV schedules. You might want to give BBC1's Football Focus a miss; it looks like there's going to be a big interview with The Dingle-Manager, from which he's quoted as saying that their Board told him his first job was "beat Blackburn for us." Cue smug grins on his face, no doubt and rises in my blood pressure.? Edited October 31, 2020 by m1st To add some further information. 2 Quote

Sounds like they are fearful of their own ability to counter a passing game. Quote

Oh crikey, that's 9 out today. I was just thinking we are sure to get a free kick in a dangerous position today and was looking forward to Douglas taking it. I have posted on theReading thread that they had 4 shots on target, 4 goals and all 4 were at least in part made by glaring defensive mistakes. If the coaching staff have really worked on cutting defensive mistakes out, we have a chance this afternoon. At least Douglas won't be able to repeat his accidental back heel... Quote

tomphil Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Isolating because they 'might' have come into contact with someone who's had it or symptoms ? Can't run football like this for a season it's farcical, nearly as farcical as the real world. Speaking of that you'd think they'd lockdown certain clubs who have a few tested positive or showing symptoms. Lockdown 2 on its way soon guaranteed. This season will turn into a pantomime way before it ends.....about next December. Quote
