darrenrover Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 (edited) The second of our series of 2 home games, we welcome 'The Lions' of Bermondsey, Millwall to Ewood Park. As a result of Covid-19, Harry the Dog and his chums will have to watch on iPlayer along with the rest of us. (Fannies!) They currently sit (before the weekends fixtures) one point above ourselves, having drawn 7 of their 13 games so far this season. It's always been a tough game against Millwall and no doubt next Wednesday night won't be any different. We''ll have to be at our very best to overcome a really resilient team and any point that we manage to win, will have been extremely hard earned. Hopefully we'll manage all 3. COYB! philipl Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 First time I think next unread topic has taken me to three match threads... Millwall are currently above us. W 4 D 7 L 2 F 12 A 10 So we are going to have to be on our game for this not to be 0-0 or 1-1. First goal will be extremely important. Quote

JHRover Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 Millwall are becoming the draw specialists of the division. Think they've had 4 in a row now. No surprises when you look at their manager and squad. Rowett is very good at making sides defensively solid and hard to beat, grinding results out consistently whilst their squad isn't blessed with talent but is hard working. Tough game indeed but another we need to be winning at home to have any chance. If it was away I think most would agree a draw is a decent result but at Ewood we need to be winning these. Just hope it isn't another Cardiff or Boro bore fest. Quote

darrenrover Posted November 28, 2020 Author Posted November 28, 2020 Having got the Barnsley fixture out of our system but still finished up with 3 points, I'd expect a completely different type of approach from Millwall. Whereas Barnsley did their best to take the game to us, I'd really expect Millwall to sit deep and invite us on, hoping to hit us on the break and at worst safeguard a point. We really do need to win this fixture to throw a marker down. After this we've got Bristol City and Brentford away. 7 points from the next 3 fixtures and we'd really be set up to be in with a shout. Agreed. Haven't seen anything of Millwall this season but I thought Brentford were at least as fortunate against QPR last night as we were against Barnsley today and 3-1 did not adequately reflect how much better Reading were than Bristol City this lunchtime. 1 Quote
1864roverite Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 The name of Wednesdays game will be patience! Millwall are set up not to lose and nick a goal on the break before reverting to defensive mode. They will come to batter Rovers as I don’t think they have the skill or ability to close us down like Barnsley did. Another tough game, will take any kind of win no matter how ugly it is. 1 Quote
darrenrover Posted November 28, 2020 Author Posted November 28, 2020 Millwall have drawn all 5 of their past 5 games. An early goal would be great for us, alternatively we need to be prepared to sit in and be patient if needs be. I'll stick my neck out and predict a 3-1 victory for us, with a couple of goals coming in the last 10 mins. Quote
joey_big_nose Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 Should win this one. No easy games in the Championship though.... Next three after that quite challenging (Brentford A, Bristol A, Norwich H). End of those four games we will have a decent view of what we can expect this season. In my gut we feel much more like a genuine top 6 side than any time in the last 7/8 years. Got a top goalscorer, top keeper, a good defence, a good midfield, a system everyone is bought into, depth on the bench, young players playing well, top players to come back from injury. Hard to pick out a weakness, apart from the simple fact we don't have as much quality as Norwich, Watford or Bournemouth... XI wise think it will be same team except Johnson and Gallagher will start in favour of Trybull and Elliot. 1 Quote
Wimbledon Rover Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 Slightly off topic, but does anybody know if there are any away tickets going for the Brentford away game for London Rovers supporters? Quote

philipl Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 This one will need an early goal and God help us if Millwall get it! Quote
CrouchingNunhiddenCucumber Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 This'll be an absolute grind. Tradition says we're drawing this one but, we've just won a game we probably didn't deserve to for the first time in God knows how long, so perhaps we can buck the trend. Quote

Let's see what the future holds, but I'm hopeful for the back end of the season. Sufficient proportion of the population will be vaccinated by April that football may return to something like normal. At the very least I hope they'll let us in to Wembley in May. 2 Quote
