I didn't see Doets against Smith when he presumably must have played exceptionally well but thought he was dreadful thereafter despite scraping through a couple of rounds and a prime example of what I was talking about.

Well if winning a match averaging 90, scoring 8 maximums and a 170 checkout is dreadful we obviously have a different metric to judge the game here.

And he didn’t have to be exceptional to beat Smith as Smith has been poor by his standards since he won the worlds - as a drop in the world rankings from number 3 to number 16 during 2024 shows.

The Premier League picks will be interest in because Wright, Anderson, Price, Aspinall and Smith are all outside the top 8 now, but Chisnall and Clayton don’t put on as good a show. Having said that, the presence of the two Luke’s will sell most venues out on their own

Not sure what average Doets had in his last 64 and 32 games but watching it, it  seemed like he was throwing 46 most throws and dragging his opponent down to the same level.

No complaints about the Premier League line up this year I don't think.

The 2 Lukes, Van Gerwyn Cross Dobey Aspinall Bunting and Price.

Averages were 88, 97 (Smith game), 90, 88.   He’s a big 180 hitter but then, as you say, will follow it with a 45.

Premier League line up is predictable. Aspinall and Price are somewhat lucky, having been outperformed by Chisnall, Heta and Clayton over the last couple of years, but are probably seen as a better watch. As I said previously,  I just find it a drawn out tournament with little jeopardy till near the end played by generally the same players chosen to some degree on “character”. But that’s just me.

Just for reference, www.dartsrankings.com is a great site for tracking player performance with regards to money and rankings (it’s always updated live even as tournaments are played, and www.mastercaller.com a good one for checking player performance (along with good old flashscores for individual match stats).
