As with a couple of his other big hits, EC's was actually a cover version. The original was by a guy called George Jones in the very early 70s. 2 Quote
TonyM Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 (edited) My favourite piece of memorabilia is my copy of the "Sports Telegraph" dated 21st April 1928 that my grandfather bought after he went to the FA Cup final...it now hangs on the wall of my office at home. The worst is probably the large cardboard box of match programmes, mainly from the 1970s, that I have kept in my loft for nearly 50 years and never look at but l still can't throw away, despite my wife's pleading. The only Rovers autograph I ever remember queuing up for. At the time, I read and re-read the Thrird Division title section...Chesterfield at home will never leave me... Chelsea had a good one with "Blue is the colour", and Spurs had "Nice one Cyril" The best for me is the current version of "Wild Rover" which they play at Ewood. It irks me , but I think "Blue is the Colour"and "Marching on Together" are the best Quote

It’s a mixture of hating Leeds generally and Yorkshire in particular. Also, the gnats piss that’s called Yorkshire tea. God’s country my ass. I’m just so glad I was born in Lancashire. 3 Quote

Gav Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 (edited) https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/18999642.blackburn-superfan-frames-lancashire-telegraph-front-pages-year-rovers-won-league/ On a personal note I paid a small fortune back in the 90's for 2 footballs, on separate occasions, signed by the Championship winning team. I wasn't present at the auctions and never saw the footballs beforehand, but both supported my 2 favourite local charities. When they arrived, on further inspection, they're both missing our England contingent, they must have been away on international duty when both footballs were signed........... I couldn't exactly ask for my money back 😪 Edited January 11, 2021 by Gav Quote

It was the 3rd one in a row in just over a week, Newcastle and Notlob the others. After the Nobenders game, I went back to the Red House near the Darwen boundary , as it was called then. A little later in walked a few of the Rovers players including Marshall Burke. He was laughing and joking without a care in the world. Me and my friends were gutted that we hadn’t won, but that little git couldn’t give a toss. That was the day I realised that it was really only the supporters that cared about what happened to their club and players just came and moved on. 3 Quote
