Dreams of 1995 Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Does anyone remember years ago, when it had quite a bad snowfall, and we were one of only a couple of games on? That includes Premier League too, as we were a Prem club at the time. “We will respect the legacy”. They are scoundrels. This is what they have brought us too. Our pitch used to be fantastic given the area we are in. 5 Quote
Backroom Tom Posted January 19, 2021 Backroom Posted January 19, 2021 Just having a rainless Lunch time walk We should have just moved the game to the pitch just off Green Lane 6 Quote
Bigdoggsteel Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Least surprising turn of events of the season. Quote
Backroom Tom Posted January 19, 2021 Backroom Posted January 19, 2021 And Pleasington, honestly never seen it looking better, the lack of games must be having an impact 6 Quote
rog of the rovers Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Boxing Day 2015 vs Middlesbrough at home. The last home game to be called off due to a waterlogged pitch. I'm not suprised to be honest, forecast looks awful! Later on/tomorrow when peoples houses start flooding, thats the real upset! As for a football fixture, there'll be another one in 4 days. 3 Quote
Gone to seed Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 That pitch is not going to miraculously recover any time soon either, so there may well be the real prospect of having more games fall victim to the neglect of Jack's legacy.. Can the club be censured by the FA for this ridiculous state of affairs? Someone's knackers need putting in a vice for this... Quote
Backroom Tom Posted January 19, 2021 Backroom Posted January 19, 2021 The pitch should get some respite now and get some remedial work done on it; when is the next home game? Quote
Butty Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Hopefully by the time we play this fixture we’ve a new man at the helm. 7 Quote
neophox Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 At least we wont hear Tony Mowbrays post match comments. 3 Quote
arbitro Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 I really think they have jumped the gun here. Why there was a mid morning inspection doesn't make sense as Swansea are already here having travelled yesterday, no visiting fans to consider, no police charges and no food waste. Surely a decision could have been delayed until mid/late afternoon to give it a chance. Although the forecast is for heavy rain it's been dry in Darwen for the last hour and the clouds look like they are shifting. The amateurish way this has been handled sums up Rovers to me. 8 Quote

Who actually makes the decision ? is it the match referee or can the clubs just agree between themselves ? Quote
perthblue02 Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Can we not ask Chorley to host our remaining matches ? Granted might be a bit of an upgrade but could be beneficial for the total Mowball philosophy 3 Quote
rigger Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 To tell you the truth, I am not bothered that the game is off, not much interest. 1 Quote

Last I can remember is Wimbledon in the 90's when Fashanu etc started doing Klinsmann dives on the pitch following the decision, but surely there's been some since that? Boxing Day 2015 but the whole of the country was basically flooded that day! Quote

A local referee was called in so primarily it's his call. I always used to insist on the managers (if possible) being there so they could have a view and input but I don't think either manager was there this morning. 1 Quote

Yes wasn’t that the day Ribchester had already flooded after days of heavy rain? And the River Darwen was bursting its banks? It certainly wasn’t after a few hours of rain just on the morning of the match. 3 Quote
Hasta Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 (edited) It's not raining now. I suspect they've made the decision based on the long term health of the pitch, not on whether this was playable or not. I suspect it may have been playable but would just have been embarrassingly bad condition. The pictures of Pleasington and Green Lane shows that, with a fine spell, all of the surface water could have gone and the ball may have rolled bobbled freely. I would have expected if there was a chance of the game being played then the decision would have been delayed rather than being called off this early It's just embarrassing that we have a pitch so bad we are trying to get game called off because of it, rather than play on it. Rochdale town centre was under several feet of water then. That'd never happened before in my 65 years of living here. The Weatherspoons was flooded out and didn't re-open for months. 1 Quote
Popular Post JHRover Posted January 19, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 19, 2021 What an absolute shambles. The people owning and running the club should be thoroughly embarrassed and ashamed of themselves. The people I feel sorry for are the ground staff and players. The ground staff do the best they can with the resources they are given. It is clear the owners and directors have cut corners and costs and now it comes home to roost. The players have joined this club presumably thinking they are joining a professional and serious operation hoping to get to the Premier League. Yet a stadium and pitch barely maintained, no undersoil heating and blocked drains getting games called off. Its like amateur hour. I don't believe the volume of rain has been unprecedented and alone has caused the postponement. Neglect of facilities and corner cutting has exacerbated the problem significantly. Curious how for 25 years after Ewood was rebuilt the rain never caused a postponement and yet during the Venky malaise the pitch is a disgrace and can't cope with heavy showers. We need owners who care and take pride in the club. It embarrasses me. Anyone else noticed the Frost covers laid out alongside the Ewood pitch recently? Looks like they've given up on the undersoil heating. Presumably it costs too much or they haven't bothered maintaining it so instead are using sheets to stop the pitch becoming frozen. The frost covers were donated by the 100 Club to help the academy at Brockhall. It seems these covers have been requisitioned and moved to Ewood Park. Not a problem? Well it means the Brockhall pitches aren't covered from frost so the team won't train on there. This is the reason the team have trained on Ewood recently as it is the only unfrozen grass pitch. This is the reason the pitch has rapidly deteriorated into the mess it is because in addition to games it has been used for training. What an absolute shambles. Venkys, Waggott and Mowbray out asap. 20 Quote
windymiller7 Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Knowing Rovers, we probably had the sprinklers on yesterday! The only club I've ever seen put the sprinklers on at HT when it's raining. 3 Quote

Kie_BRFC Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Definitely appears that no effort was made to make the pitch playable, but to avoid making it any worse (if that's possible). Just shows the complete amateurish nature of the club from top to bottom, optimum owners my arse 1 Quote
