oldjamfan1 Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 (edited) I'm not usually a fan of posthumous releases of 'new' or 'undiscovered' material, as there's usually a reason why it didn't see the light of day while the artist was still alive, and that is because they didn't deem it good enough. However, Gerry Rafferty's daughter has just put together some of the things he was working on in the years before his death, enlisting the help of many who played on the sessions to finish the songs off. Its a mixture of his own compositions and a couple of folk classics, with the album ending with Gerry's re-recording of Stuck In The Middle With You. The album is called Rest In Blue Its worth buying just for his rendition of Wild Mountain Thyme, which apparently reduced Billy Connolly to tears when he heard it. Backroom Mike E Posted September 6, 2021 Backroom Posted September 6, 2021 'Listening' to a YouTube channel/series called TheGreatWar which originally released an episode each week from 2014-2018 about the events that week exactly 100 years prior. Even now it's a fascinating in-depth history lesson in enjoyable bitesize chunks. Quote

StubbsUK Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Has anyone played the game where you create a play list of 100 songs, from 100 different artists? Each artist can appear once, but solo artists can appear alongside any bands they're in. Took me almost a week putting this together. Here's mine created a couple of years ago: 2 Quote

Lovely. @K-Hod Great gig last night at The Piece Hall, sets things up nicely for Heaton Park. Bernard Sumner, after 40yrs, has actually managed to find his singing voice, the band were on top form, which over the years hasn't always been the case. Quote
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted September 11, 2021 Moderation Lead Posted September 11, 2021 New Order were absolutely unbelievable last night. That’s one ticked off! Parklife today and I’ll be watching Carl Cox from 12-3, amongst others, then Dave to finish. Lovely. 1 Quote
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted September 12, 2021 Moderation Lead Posted September 12, 2021 Managed to catch Carl Cox, Skream, Artwork, Honey Dijon, Adam Bayer and Dave yesterday. Dave closed the day and brought Stormzy out for a tune they made about three months ago to finish. Incredible stuff. 1 Quote
Gav Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 (edited) A blast from the past, great tune, good band. Edited September 24, 2021 by Gav Quote
Dreams of 1995 Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 We’ve had a bit of Bicep discussion before but on the weekend I had the pleasure of catching an Eli Brown closing set at an Elrow event in Brum Didnt get any live videos - but will keep an eye out - but he did play a pretty great mix of Biceps Glue and Nelly Furtados ‘Say it Right’ for all you electronic heads out there Quote
Gav Posted October 13, 2021 Posted October 13, 2021 We recorded Simon and Garfunkel in Central Park from 1981 - Just watched the full concert, absolute genius, takes your stresses away, just brilliant. 1 Quote
Gav Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 (edited) Guilty pleasure? I'm thinking of giving the new ABBA album 'Voyage' a spin. Greatest pop band ever. Edited November 5, 2021 by Gav Quote
Claytons Left Boot Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 After recently seeing Genesis in Liverpool, then Steve Hackett in Carlisle, I’m giving both some serious airplay. Away from his solo stuff, Steve Hackett generally concentrates on the early Genesis numbers, so that gig was certainly special. Quote
Backroom DE. Posted November 6, 2021 Backroom Posted November 6, 2021 For anybody who enjoys 80s rock (Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, etc), Nitrate's 'Renegade' album is pretty good: Another band I've been listening to a lot of recently are Beast in Black - still very much 80s influenced, particularly with the use of synths, but also heavy into cyberpunk and with a sound closer to the likes of Iron Maiden mixed with Judas Priest. Probably not to many tastes on here, but I've really been enjoying their latest album 'Dark Connection': 1 Quote

oldjamfan1 Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 The Lathums are a good new young band - the baton has well and truly been passed to these lads from the 60s and through Britpop: 1 Quote
