He may get a Southgate cap but will have to find real pace from somewhere to be nailed on for England or indeed Liverpool

Yes - while good I've not really been blown away by Eliott to be honest. He's got good stats but rarely beats a man, rarely scores. When he doesn't play I don't really think we miss him to be honest.

He's incredibly young so sure he will come on. But seems a long way away from the likes of Foden, Sancho, Bellingham, Greenwood etc who are England's future. I'm not that convinced he will be a big player for England.

The standout loan for me has been Harwood-Bellis. Cracking player, would love it if we could get him for another year. Would take Elliott too obviously. But if I could only take one it would be H-B.

Just checked the score and the first words out of my mouth were:

Wow Huddersfield must be pants.

Nice result but doesn't change a thing and if anything I now worry more he will be here next season. Hopefully the scouts saw AA bang a hat-trick and we get another 5m for him.

Not if they saw the number of  chances he missed . Three in the first half alone.

Yep. I didn't say that to downplay Chile or Brereton. Chile are a decent side. They're generally recognised as not being as good as England though (not that we couldn't lose to them on an off day), so I just feel the fact one looks nailed on for England and the other will have done very well if he plays for Chile emphasises the difference.

Talking of Chile, who is the only Chilean to play for the Rovers? Can you remember without googling? Recent posts on this site re foreign players at BRFC.

Along with, Grella, Blackman, Fowler and Keith Andrew’s, what a manager he was, but let’s pretend we were racist towards him and he was a great manager, yawn.

He was a young up and coming manager at the time. Had done really well with mk dons and I thought at the time he would have been a good fit for us.

We all know how it worked out for him in the end, but I for one didn't criticise the appointment at the time.

Personally, I liked Villanueva and thought he deserved more game time than he got. He was never going to get that once Sam showed up though, not his style.

He was a shit manager though yes. (Ince obviously, not Sam)

Carlos Villanueva

I liked Villanueva, in the talented but not very effective bracket we specialised in for a while with him, Formica and Rochina. All of them could have had decent careers for Rovers with better managers I think.

Formica for sure could have been so much better than what he was

I was going to post the stats whatever I found them to show, as a point of debate. I wasn't making a point for or against your point.

But since we're here now. The stats show Brereton needs an additional half a game (47.57 minutes) for each goal contribution. I consider that quite a bit. It takes him 29.75% longer for each contribution, I make it.

For comparison, Armstrong has a goal contribution every 113.41 minutes. A similar difference in minutes per contribution between him and Elliott compared to between Elliott and Brereton.

I don't think it means Brereton is trash or anything, but it's a fair difference to me. Especially when BB is 22, in his third season at the club and Harvey Elliott is 18 and in his first ever season of regular senior football.

Elliott will play for England one day, most of us are sure of that. Brereton will be lucky if Chile decide to fit him in.

I will say one thing about BB - when he was on top form at the start of the season he was a far better "out" ball than Elliott- with the ball  sticking with him better. They are essentially different players - I think Elliott is good - but somewhat over hyped.

We didn't get the best out of any of those three, I agree. I still think they were a bit more effective than most give them credit for though (albeit none pulled up trees). Vukcevic (sp?) too. But game of opinions, I know most don't agree with me on them.

Yeah I think another year at Rovers might be the best thing for him. He has pretty gawdy stats this year but the rest of the time he is pretty quiet. Nowhere near getting a game at Liverpool.

Rovers never recovered from his appointment , a total disaster , compounded by Kean a couple of years later ...

Hmmm, he didn’t exactly go on to make a career, granted he had something. As we both agree though, Ince, awful management.

He didn't,  although that presumably had a fair bit to do with him vanishing off to the Middle East for the money. Doesn't exactly raise your profile.

Brereton's still young so I'm prepared to persevere with him. I want to see what tune a new manager can get out of him as I believe he does have a lot of attributes just - needs to learn how to use them consistently and effectively.

He's so much better than he was a year ago. It's really light and day.

His hold up play and running with the ball are both excellent. He was like Bambi on ice in 19/20, but this season he holds off, turns and runs so well.

That said he really really needs to work on his passing, heading and finishing. Hes way too head down, and far too often carries the ball 30 yards and then makes a ridiculous pass to the opposition. Must have done that 3 times today.

Great win, just when it doesn’t really matter a toss.

I’d always wish for a Rovers win but derive no pleasure whatsoever from today’s result or performance.

Just fuck off coventrio, end of.

The win gave me no enjoyment, during play, straight after or even after a decent sleep.

It only helps the Mowbray con-trick.
