This CV doesn’t scream “capable of leading a £20m+ business” - I hope his academic studies were thorough.

In truth Ian I am far more excited by the prospect of Waggott disappearing that Gestede coming. 😂

I'd like to see the back of SW as much as anyone, but the idea of dropping a complete novice into the role...?

If that did happen, surely it'd be CEO in title only, with the real power/influence being with others.
That said, that's probably the case now.

A complete guess & some wishful thinking but could it be possible that Venkys are undertaking a full overhaul of club management, including Waggot?

The ship was steadied after the initial rocky tenure under Venkys but in the last couple of years, the clubs reputation has continued to nose dive. From leaks about the Indian tax issues, to botched transfers and managers voicing their discontent to the press.

Could it be that Steve Waggot has been forced into retirement but before doing so, he must build an entire new structure for the club? Getting everything ready for the new season before being allowed to bow out gracefully with his reputation in tact?

Was steve the first to learn his fate back when the JDT saga was reaching a crescendo? But with football & other large businesses, you can't just take your figure head out of the club mid season without a plan in place!?!

I'm giving Venkys alot of credit for business acumen but they do have successful businesses elsewhere!

Who knows!?!

Venkys are, have and always will be the problem. As long as they remain here the club will be totally fucked.

Completely agree but they are still here & are clearly making changes. I am just wondering (or guessing) if SW is part of the clear out?

After everyone is replaced, we may continue as we did during the Mowbray years, we may plummet or they may finally get things right!

I suspect Venkys main goal is to keep the club quiet & out of the gossip columns.

I agree completely with that conclusion. The Mowbray years would have been bliss for them.

Any changes they make are nothing other than window dressings. We'll see if anything changes once the rancid troll departs and the next fake CEO comes in. My prediction is that nothing will change. Still absolute failure year after year with the shadow man doing the bidding of his overlords.

Way too much credit for their thinking.

Reckon it's just a case of Waggot feathering his own nest again telling them he has just the man to take over but needs to mentor him for a while.  Therefore he's stopping himself from getting the boot and probably eeking out another years salary and perks.

All the hallmarks of how a slippery toad would work.

I give them little to no credit from a football perspective but in business, they have a track record.

When it comes to rovers, they have previously shown that they are willing (albeit slowly & with limited impact) to make wholesale changes at the top.

SW knows the writing is on the wall & will want to get out on his own terms.

Just a theory from me but the number of changes & ruthless way it is being performed sounds like something being directed from the very top & outside the day to day running of the club.

Respectfully disagree as i think they are just back to winging it and a large part of what is going on seems to be Waggot re arranging the chairs how he sees fit.

My hunch is he's being left to get on with it because he's brought millions in from player sales to cover running costs, something they can't or won't do right now so that's earned him the right to actually wield a bit of power.

I think what happened before with the introduction of DoF, head coach model was much more in keeping with an actual thought out plan.

What we are seeing now is just back to season by season 'journey' type stuff.

They have been negligent with their tenure of Blackburn Rovers business....it cant be dressed up any other way.

Disastrous for this Club, nobody gives a hoot about their other interests.

Negligent is probably too tame a word to use to describe their ownership.

It is bordering on criminal and very appropriate that they are having to go to court for permission to carry on, so to speak.

Personally I think you are well wide of the mark here.

I doubt Venkys are doing anything. If they wanted a full overhaul they'd have binned Waggott off weeks ago and immediately appointed a competent replacement.

Waggott is already well past retirement age and it makes me wonder why a bloke hitting 70 in the next few weeks and based down in Kent would want to bother himself with the apparently difficult task of running Blackburn Rovers. Surely at that age and after 6.5 years of such 'high pressure' work you'd be ready to sail off into the sunset and put your feet up and let a younger bloke have the aggro?

But no, continue he does. It's the same with politicians. We are led to believe that it is such a high pressure demanding job yet they carry on doing it well past the normal retirement age into late 60s and 70s. I wonder why. Perhaps because it isn't actually the high pressure environment they make out, it is actually a very cushy number and the pay and glory of continuing are too good to give up voluntarily? Just a theory.

I agree with Tomphil's theories here which is that the Indians (at least those that matter) have effectively washed their hands of it again, content to leave shadow man and slippery Steve to tinker with whatever cash they can raise themselves.

Having brought in pushing £30 million since last year and with another £10 million+ ready to 'press send' on this summer in Szmodics they've got favour with the Indians as they have been vindicated in their approach. A near £30 million net profit on trading in the space of 18 months or so mainly from academy developed players. No trouble for the Indians. Win win.

So for now they are keen to keep that going and happy to let slippery Steve and shadow man 'rebuild' in their own image.

Of course this rebuild has to come cheap, and Waggott has proven in his time here to not have any gumption or ambition on expanding the operation, so instead he delves into his phone book for past connections in John Park and cheap but very keen in Gestede with the added bonus of 'fans favourite' from his playing days.

Meanwhile he can lay the blame for last season neatly at the door of Broughton and JDT who are now long gone.

Talk about a perfect solution.

Yet fundamentally he remains in favour with India, still sat in a position of power and prestige, still on the prawn sandwich run on matchday, still the public face of Blackburn Rovers, still on £300k a year plus bonuses.

Nothing changed but the signage on the shop front.

I tend to agree with the bulk of that.

Suhail has a more active role than what appears to the casual observer and he is the key.

If he was closes to retirement age, then we may see a different scenario, so the only hope now is that the cannot fund us any more. It could take a year or two after that, as there are still some saleable assets, but a permanent ban on funding and it is effectively game over.

who says he is based in Kent?

I'm think he has a house here in the Ribble Valley near Brockhall

Agreed, the only hope and chance to be rid of these people is for the assets to run out and funding options to dry up.

Fans congratulating them on the sale of Adam Wharton for £20 million I think need to realise that this is only helping Venkys keep control for a good while longer. Szmodics will be the same. The cash helps the Indians, not Blackburn Rovers.

His base is in Sevenoaks area in Kent I believe, happy to be corrected on that if it isn't true. Maybe he has a place up here to stay when he needs to but his base is down south and has been since his Charlton days.
