Norbert Rassragr Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 It's good d to see an old fashioned tonking of a smaller nation. There was a period a while ago when we'd have laboured to win 2 or 3 nil to these nations, with the likes of Lampard playing like Jason Lowe. 1 Quote

Not that small- North Macedonia knocked Italy out of World Cup Qualification in 2022 and won in Germany two years ago. Makes Malta losing 4-0 look very respectable. 1 Quote

Players come through but he keeps getting picked. Going forward, competitive with anyone. Maguire hasn't put a foot wrong for England in 2 World Cups and a Euro's. He wasn't worth the money Man U paid for him, but unlike many previous generations his performances improve in an England shirt. 1 Quote

I bet Klopp is furious because Trent will likely want to play there for Liverpool. I reckon that Southgate had a chat with Klopp beforehand. Klopp moving TAA into midfield coincided with an upturn in Liverpool's form. His defensively frailties are getting worse, Klopp needs midfielders. It's a win win for all. England have some real talent. Bringing on Grealish and Foden is a luxury prior England managers never had. 1 Quote
superniko Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 Not a clue what our strongest 11 is to be honest - some luxury for Southgate. Walker, Trippier, Trent and James all as RBs, it's just an outrageous squad now. For the front 6, I'd probably go Bellingham - Rice - Foden Rashford - Kane - Saka Find it hard to imagine we've players good enough to stop Foden getting in the team (I know Pep has played Grealish all season). So Rice holding, Bellingham box to box and Foden advanced creating, allowing us to keep pace out wide with Saka and Rashford. 2 Quote

Mattyblue Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 (edited) He had a stroll about against far inferior players. See how he does against quality teams. Edited June 20, 2023 by Mattyblue 2 Quote

Where do you get that one from? Foden is a class act but seems the opposite for me; he looks a bit scared playing for England. He has time on his side though. 1 Quote

If England can't win against these sides by at least four then they shouldn't qualify. Quote
Mattyblue Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 Didn’t used to be, was always a bit of jeopardy re qualification, probably until about ten years ago, complete stroll these days obviously. Quote
roversfan99 Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 Doesnt help that the Euro's is stupidly expanded now, with the World Cup to follow. But yeah, even the likes of Capello and Hodgson used to breeze to qualification with average squads. 2 Quote
Mattyblue Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 The Euros are now ridiculously easy to qualify for for the bigger nations, top two straight through and then play offs for even more spots. 3 Quote
Upside Down Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 As long as I can remember these qualifications have been a joke. It does make it very funny when England fail to qualify. Quote
