roverandout Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Toney has been axed from tonight's squad. Makes no sense as he's exactly the type of player Italian defenders hate playing against. Kane will be marked out of the game Quote

He'll play some part against the Germans. What reserve striker to pick is yet another a tricky decision for Southgate. Unless Kane is injured he's playing every minute. I like Calvert-Lewin but he's hardly played any football since last year's Euros. 1 Quote

Oldgregg86 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 I don’t understand the animosity towards the nations league. It’s interesting and far more entertaining than pointless friendlies. It gives teams of equal ability to compete against each other . Yeah it’s not the world cup or euros but surly this is better than the alternative. I think it didn’t get a chance to really take off due to Covid . I know it isn’t taken seriously, more like the community shield than the fa cup but surly fans would rather watch this than us batter estonia or whoever in a friendly 2 Quote
Mattyblue Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) It’s the players and managers that have animosity towards it. Personally I’d play all internationals (qualifiers) in one block per season. And some pre tournament warm ups, and that would be it. So we wouldn’t need either an invented ‘competitive’ competition or friendlies attempting to fill up endless international breaks through the year. Edited September 23, 2022 by Mattyblue 3 Quote

I get that but it would be the same for friendlies due to the amount of games that have to be played . I’m hoping now Covid has gone and once this World Cup is out the way it will settle down and teams might take it more seriously 1 Quote

They should have never sold Abraham! You'd expect Toney to cost double. I'd disagree with the earlier poster, always thought Abraham was fairly underrated even when he was banging in the goals for Villa and early on for Lampard at Chelsea. His exploits in Italy show he is very near to (if not already) a top level striker. Kane of course is in another class completely. 3 Quote
joey_big_nose Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Its funny the way England playing today is very reminiscent of Luton Vs Rovers. We've got three forwards on but can't get the ball to them, Italy have an extra midfielder so are dominating the center of the pitch. Quote
joey_big_nose Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Wonder if we will fail to match up at half time and they do us second half. TBF Italy wasted a few decent opportunities first 10 mins. Quote
Aqualung Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 That England shirt is bloody awful. 1 Quote

Bohinen1983 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Would love to see Joe Rothwell in an England shirt. Absolutely dire stuff. Foden looks good. But what's with the other players passing the balls square instead of infront, puts players on the back foot. Shit to watch. Quote
simongarnerisgod Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 with all the attacking talent england possess they should be told to get out on the pitch, enjoy yourself and bag a few goals,as it stands every player looks rigid, apprehensive and not sure of what they should be doing, hence all the square passing 1 Quote
Backroom Silas Posted September 23, 2022 Backroom Posted September 23, 2022 Only just switched on, how's Maguire done? I felt like this was a big game for him. Try prove doubters wrong. Just put in a good break saving challenge a few mins ago. Quote

roverandout Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Bellingham has Been England's best player Quote
roversfan99 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Watching England is always a chore. The one talent that stands out is Foden and he will be dropped for the tournament for Mason Mount. 1 Quote

Didn't we used to play crap like Slovenia before Tournaments, and then wonder why we started comps half baked. 3 Quote

joey_big_nose Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Should get Sterling off, bring on Toney on to play in a two with Kane and drop Foden into central midfield. Its so daft the 343. The wing backs can't get forward because they are crowded out by their own wide forwards. Go 352 and everyone's a winner. We get an extra centre mid to compete. Kane gets a partner to help get the ball to stick, and the wing backs have the room to bomb on. Quote

How is this any different than just organising a friendly with Italy? Quote
