Its so daft the 343. The wing backs can't get forward because they are crowded out by their own wide forwards. Go 352 and everyone's a winner. We get an extra centre mid to compete. Kane gets a partner to help get the ball to stick, and the wing backs have the room to bomb on. Toney not in 23 Quote

Mattyblue Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Itβll be reight, weβve been told for decades that itβs tired bodies in June that costs us, so a mid season tournament will see us walk itβ¦ 3 Quote

Β Because at least they are competitive. Β You forget how shite firendlies were when they passed around the back for 60 minutes and then changed 10 players. Id rather not break up the football season for internationals, but if we do, this is far better than playing Costa Rica or Mali in a friendly. It also grounds the βhypeβ that England are great. roverandout Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Walker is clearly not fit. He hadn't played hardly for city with his injury so it was always going to be a riskΒ Quote
joey_big_nose Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 The lineup and non subs suggests to me this was England's first XI. Just gone 4231. Don't really see how that helps us? Quote
joey_big_nose Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 To be fair we look immediately a lot better .. 1 Quote

Not sure what Iβm supposed to be seeing that makes it any different to if friendlies were just organised with teams like Italy or Germany. And as for subs, you can make just as many in these games. UEFA can call them βcompetitiveβ all they like and can provide a naff little trophy that is awarded after a convoluted set of games taking about 18 months, but as the players and managers themselves only see them as glorified friendlies, they simply arenβt. 1864roverite Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 If Southgate thinks this is preparing for the World Cup then we are in the first plane home, it truly is fucking awful 2 Quote

You tell Hungary tonight that theyβve just won a few friendlies.Β You can tell they are more competitive than friendlies because we are getting rolled over in them. How many subs have there been in this game so far? 12? 15? 18? Nope, just 5 for both teams combined. Β No team in any game in our group has made more than 5 subs in any match. Mattyblue Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) Friendlies are now also five. Plus, weβve lost plenty of friendlies away from home against teams like this. If you think they are βcompetitiveβ and mean something, fair enough. But in reality the whole βleagueβ and who played who, who won it will all be forgotten by this time next year. Whilst the WC/Euros go into folklore. Thatβs just the structure of international football, everything builds up to those tournaments, this means very, very little.
