What's wrong with the current academy?

I’ve no idea - but that’s the rumour which is going around at the moment. I don’t know how true it is, but I wanted to tell you what I thought he was talking about. And his subsequent reply makes it sound like I’m right. @1864roverite care to share anymore details?

If breretons contract was to expire at the end of next season

Would we still not get some compensation for him being under 24 or would he be over that? (We would be entitled to some provided we offered him a contract)

If true that means his value at the end of this season won't be as lowered as say armstrongs was. So in theory if we don't go up could we still get £20mil for him?

His contract doesn't expire at the end of the season. There is an option of an additional year which we will undoubtedly trigger. He essentially has 18 months remaining.

Selling Diaz half way through the season will show how little ambition the owners have.

Unless of course the ambition is to line the pockets of agents and the like. After all, it wouldn't be the first time they have done that.

It depends on the deal. If clubs are throwing £25m+ at us then we’re not in a position to turn that down regardless of our ambitions.

If the goal isn't to get back into the top division then what is the point?

To help the club financially survive? I hope we don’t sell and on current form it would need to take a crazy offer. But if a crazy offer was to be made then the club would need to seriously consider it. It’s the only way we can operate sustainably.

What you say isn’t even a simple opinion or your own version either - the manager has said many times that the only way our club (with its turnover) can compete in this division (with the teams on parachute wages) is through “polishing up” players and building the squad with the proceeds.

Ofcourse there are ways around FFP, the Leicesters, the wolves, the timing.. I don’t believe those at the top of our club wish to spend “as much as it takes” or “leave no stones unturned”… but I do believe there is more common sense and pragmatic long term planning, as opposed to reading, Derby, Sheff wednesday etc

If his form continues the way it is then he will still have interest in the summer.

We should not be contemplating selling Brererton in January.

We have cut the wage bill, recieved 15 million for Armstrong and 16.6 million has been put into the club via the training ground sale Ffp shouldnt be a concern at this time

A way of ‘investing’ in the club. New Academy investment with no restrictions on sale proceeds being used in the club.

Ah. I see. Venkys will sell Brockhall (Jack's last remaining legacy), build a new academy with new money and give the proceeds from the sale of Brockhall to BRFC!

Is that want you want me to believe?

If so, there is an historic bridge across the Thames in the centre of London which I own. I would be happy to sell it to you for half its real cost as I need the money urgently to finance a new venture. Cash only mind!

Getting back into the top flight gravy train will ensure us financially.Promotion should be the aim,not flogging off our best players for short term gains.

Sold to a holding company that also owns the club remember.

Big difference between that, and simply “selling it”.

You know that.

Oh yes I do know that. My response  is to the above post from Spartakfenni which has  Venkys selling the academy to build a new one and giving the profits to the Club.

Unless the new academy is a tin shed on a carpark I'm struggling to see where this immense profit lies.

Apologies, I thought you were part of this conversation!
