v Hull City (a) - 19/1/22

Recommended Posts

The point about this postponement is, as many have pointed out, the timing of the announcement.

There should be a rule that there cannot be a postponement less than 4 hours before a match, and it is up to individual clubs how they manage this. They would obviously have to take precautions to, in some way, isolate or protect players for the 24/48 hours before a game, but if that was the rule, less innocent fans would literally pay for the mistakes or lack of communication from any individual club.

As I said as soon as I heard the news, I posted that each club should be forced to communicate their covid position to fans from 24/48 hours before a game.

If Hull had done this, it would have impacted the attendance today, but many fans would have taken the decision, on hearing that (for example)10 players had Covid and another 7 had symptoms, not to travel, and the ones that did travel would be more prepared for a late postponement.

It's the deceit that all was relatively well in the Hull camp that encouraged 2,500+ people to travel, many leaving it as late as poss in case of breaking news.

It's really unforgivable, and I hope we join together and many of us decide to attend the rearranged game, on a wet, dark, inhospitable Tuesday night, or that the club offer to pay for coaches or something, to give us the chance to have 3000+ fans there to ensure we have the same support we would have had today.

Thoughts now turn to Wednesday night....

No sympathy.  If people are willing to give up their free time to watch a football game that's their loss

I don’t get it

Whether it’s playing Sunday mornings, or if injured down watching (no matter the weather), or getting to a Rovers game, I couldn’t think of much better ways of spending a day than watching the beautiful game

I feel sorry for you. It must have been hell being a Rovers fan these past 10 years without a genuine love of the sport

As my old man would say “you’d watch 11 snails play if you could” - he’s right. Sounds cheesy but the actual game of football is just brilliant, regardless of what you may think of other aspects of the sport itself

edit - just saw your post about being pissed. Fair play, I’ll join you on that one 🍻😄🎄

So, we set the replay date and Hull will have a fully fit squad, while rovers are ravaged by Covid but still above the required minimum numbers to force the game to be played.

Whats the chances of that?

Don’t, den, cos that’s exactly what will happen and we know it

Form of our lives and this happens. Could see it coming the moment their gaffer got a positive test. I’m not one for conspiracy but i had a feeling they wouldn’t want this game, why would they, and you can’t help but feel we’ve been hard done by here

We are all aware of the situation we are in cos the media never stops talking about it and then we have the TV advert with Whitty on it(even on Christmas day) but we can't keep stopping our lives or locking us up again. We've been through enough now.

And I'd rather not die Chaddy.  Or my parents and friends.

I've laboured this point since 1pm on Sunday, but if the Hull chairman says they had 14 covid cases on Friday, and they asked the EFL for a ruling on their kife-edge predicament, then why could this not be communicated to the Rovers board,  or office???

His words:

"We spoke to the league on Friday and said, 'look, we're at fourteen cases this week already with Saturday and Sunday testing still to go, the game is at risk and obviously we'll still comply with all of the rules and we'll try to put the game on but we're just giving you a head's up that we may not be able to comply with the 14 senior players being available for a game."

And why weren't the EFL obliged to immediately tell Rovers about this, to allow our officials to decide if they wanted to share this with the fans?

As stated earlier, it wouldn't surprise me if Rovers board knew about the position on Friday, and both clubs, and the EFL made a decision to shield the clubs from the loss of revenue that would have resulted in an honest communication to the fans of both teams.

We genuinely have a case to be heard here. Important information vital to the welfare of the fans of both clubs was purposefully withheld by at least Hull and the EFL.

There MUST be an investigation. Surely.

I've filled in the form to complain to the EFL too, making similar points.

Cue reaction (or any kind of action) from EFL...

Still livid about the shit show yesterday.

We were literally 10 minutes from Hull when they announced it. No doubt the rearranged fixture will be a Tuesday night meaning I'll struggle to attend as I'm sure many others will as I saw quite a few fellow fans with children.

Is it really that hard to put a sensible deadline in place to stop fans wasting both time and money, this isn't a one off, it keeps happening.

Any enquiry by the EFL should include some Rovers representation, ideally a supporter. This will ensure that there is no cover up from anybody.

As it is they are happy to mark their own homework whilst doing so encouraging criticism and mistrust from decent, honest people.

Can I recommend that you take a few minutes to complain to the EFL and ask for an explanation. Under their Supporters Charter you are perfectly entitled to do so.

Done.

It alleges that I'll receive a response within 7 days, I won't hold my breath though...

Well done mate. Please encourage others to do the same. If I dont hear back from them I will be writing again asking the same questions. I would also like to hear from Waggott who should be putting his weight behind this and backing us.

Do you think Hull would want 3000 Rovers fans on a Saturday again? It will definately be a midweek game, where most of those who were going to attend, unable to make it.

Doesn't say there they didn-t have 14 available players, says they didn't have 14 'senior' players.

I thought they were meant to utilise under 23's if they were short on numbers?

Yeah unless both teams go out of the cup in the next round then it'll have to be midweek. Fixture pile ups are inevitable as the season can't end late because of the ridiculous world Cup next year. It would have been in Hulls best interest to play albeit with a depleted team (allegedly anyway)

I don't agree with the Covid rules anyway but that's a discussion for another thread.

If they're to remain in place for the time being however a few basic rules regarding postponements due to illness/injury should apply.

1) If there is any chance at all that a request to postpone the game is going to have to be made this should be made public a specified period of not less than say 24-36 hours before the game. Therefore if fans decide to travel knowing this they do so at their own risk.

2) Any decision on postponement must be considered and made a minimum of however long it would take the away fans to travel to the stadium plus say two hours.  There's no need for example to call off Blackburn v Preston as early as Carlisle v Plymouth.

3) After that cut off point no requests for postponement can be considered and if the team making the request refuse to fulfill the fixture they forfeit the three points.

It would be interesting under the current rules if some fans tried to sue the Clubs/EFL for their travelling expenses and inconvenience in the small claims court. Technically I can't see how the Club's would have a leg to stand on. They're committed to put on a fixture and it's clearly a breach of contract and/or negligent to have a mechanism in place which allows for postponement after fans have arrived at the ground.
