RoverDom Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 New year results aren't great. I hope to god we're not in the early stages of a spiral... Quote

simongarnerisgod Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 most important thing for next monday is to get back to the same team shape that brought us a winning run,ffs tony surely you must see that tonight, your formation did`nt work 1 Quote
Claytons Left Boot Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 We’re a decent enough side, a good side and this season has been a step in the right direction after seasons of dross. We’re just not good enough to go up. 2 Quote
Backroom DE. Posted January 19, 2022 Backroom Posted January 19, 2022 (edited) Another poor performance, this time with the result to match. The officials have cost us here and should be reprimanded for decision-making which was frankly incompetent in every sense. A penalty and Hull down to ten early on changes everything. Their second goal should never be allowed. Obvious decisions which cannot be defended. With that said, we were shit. You could tell from the first 5 minutes we were going to struggle and weren't up for it at all. Our lack of squad depth shined through tonight as the replacements for our unavailable first-teamers proved to be far, far below the required standard. Mowbray's unnecessary changing of tactics to shoehorn Gallagher into the team is proof that he really doesn't learn. First half was an absolute disgrace. Not a decent performance to be seen. We looked like we'd stumbled onto the pitch from the nearest boozer. Second half we had periods of decent play, but let's be honest, Hull had the better chances and could have scored another two or three. In comparison for all our huffing and puffing we barely worked their keeper and looked depressingly void of quality. Kaminski - 4/10 - poor night for him. Looked uncertain more than once. Fouled for the second goal. JRC - 2/10 - Hard to remember a worse performance at RWB, or in general really. Looked like a fan who had won a competition to play for the club. Lenihan - 6/10 - Didn't really do anything majorly wrong, but made a couple of poor decisions further up the pitch. Van Hecke - 5/10 - Not too much wrong defensively but had a couple of free headers from corners and wasted them. Wharton - 6/10 - OK. Not much else to say. Edun - 3/10 - Horrific first half. Looked better in the second from an attacking perspective, still a poor left back though. The sooner Pickering returns the better. Rothwell - 5/10 - Some nice touches at times but did nothing of note. Buckley - 5/10 - A couple of lovely passes in the first half which deserved better. Forgot he was on the pitch in the second half until he was subbed. Gallagher - 2/10 - An anti-footballer. I hate watching him play for us, even more so on the right wing. In fairness to him, judging by his effort in this match he hates it too. Brereton - 5/10 - Should have won us a penalty, but other than that was pretty poor. Get him off to Chile so that he can regain the Diaz, fast. Khadra - 5/10 - Busy in the first half but terrible final touch, final ball and shooting attempts. Didn't do much in the second half. Subs - 5/10 for the lot. We didn't really look any better when they came on. Mowbray - 1/10 - back to his worst with formation tinkering and Gallagher on the wing. The team looked beaten from the first minute. How and why did we start the match with such low motivation? Really, really bad tonight, and I fear it's going to get worse on Monday. Feels like our luck and momentum has run out, with performances on the decline and the squad beginning to look stretched and unbalanced. Ideas of 'bouncing back' and this result being a one off ignore the context of our recent performances I'm afraid. Edited January 19, 2022 by DE. 7 Quote
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted January 19, 2022 Moderation Lead Posted January 19, 2022 The ref was shit, but then again so were we. If we lose against Boro, I’m very concerned about it becoming a death spiral. 2 Quote

RevidgeBlue Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Can't be crying like babies because a couple of decisions went against us, you have to make your own luck. What have we learned tonight 1) The players simply weren't up for the challenge first half. 2) The manager won't be able to resist tinkering with a winning formula he more or less stumbled on by accident to try and shoehorn Gallagher into the side at every possible opportunity. 3) JRC isn't up to the required standard. 4) Gallagher plumbed Paul Mckinnon type depths with his "performance" tonight. Wilder must have been locking his chops watching that tonight. Hesitate to say it was nice while it lasted but the last few games have felt a bit that way. 5 Quote
West Yorks Rover Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Mowbray doesn't want promotion anyway, he wouldn't know what to do with it. Just like West Brom. 2 Quote
AllRoverAsia Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 REfs cannot be that bad without it being deliberate and therefore planned. It is quite disgraceful that a professional sport is handled by such shit. I had better Refs at the level I played at. One like this would have been in the river. I jest not. 1 Quote
Bethnal Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Ultimately, they’re a shit team, they’ve worked harder than us and had our number on a few things. We show ourselves in the foot with the setup and selection. Let’s hope it’s a blip, because I can’t stomach another meltdown to mid-table. 1 Quote

booth Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Nah we’ve been dogshit. We shouldn’t be 2-0 down but that was a poor showing. Mowbray got it so wrong and the disappointing thing is that he’s failed with that system before time and time again. You can’t ignore the fact they should have had a man down, a penalty against and a goal disallowed though. That’s got to be the most poorly officiated and biased match I’ve seen in decades. 5 Quote
Torgeir Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Some vital matches coming up. Dust ourselves off and go again. 2 Quote

I'm embarrassed to be a Rovers fan, absolutely pathetic doom mongers. Grumble on. If it's any consolation, I'm embarassed you're a Rovers fan right now too. We are all pissed off right now and the last thing any of us needs is you telling us to smell the roses and suggesting we are shit fans if we see things differently to you. My own definition of a Rovers fan doesn't involve ever being embarassed to be one, either. Edited January 19, 2022 by bluebruce 11 Quote

CambridgeRover Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 I never want to see Gallagher play again for this team, I want him gone. What a complete waste of money and time. 9 Quote
JohnD Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 We had to lose sometime and the referee wasn't the worst professional involved tonight. It's how we respond now but my glass is half full regarding our prospects. 1 Quote

COYB After a bad game, we have got to look for any fom of positives. The only two I can see are, we now know JRC and Gallagher are not of the required quality to be starters. Let's just hope Mowbray sees that. 1 Quote
yankfan Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 We primarily defend with 6, Travis the wing backs and our back 3. 1/2 of that unit was out today. Shows the lack of depth as Edun, JRC and pulling our two attacking kids deeper so Gally could play wide was never going to work. 1 Quote
den Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 I’m afraid we fell back to some of our old ways tonight. far too slow out of the blocks, doing nothing for 45 mins. Fell behind and it showed this team isn’t suited to coming from behind. After a 2nd half revival the task got too much and we were very lucky only conceding two. The next few weeks are going to be even harder for a variety of reasons. Hopefully we will come again but tonight is a big wake up to what’s in front of us. 2 Quote

Today was the 3 points we needed to make up for the upcoming difficult run of games and missing players. No Brereton, no fullbacks, Mowbray not knowing what to do about it. Oh well it was a nice dream while it lasted. Quote
