v Hull City (a) - 19/1/22

Recommended Posts

I disagree with the claims of having a shallow squad, in terms of numbers. We spent money on a back-up left back/midfielder and just recruited another two right backs.

We're lacking in defensive midfield and that's a big fault of Mowbray having loaned and signed a number of players and not addressed it. He could, alternately, have nurtured Davenport or Jake Garrett for the role but Johnson has been the one he's generally chosen and, suddenly, when the time came to start him, Mowbray backed away.

Otherwise, we have Butterworth, Markanday and Dolan (when fit) as options to play as wing forwards, rather than Gallagher, which, I think is a pretty good selection relatively speaking in this league. It's Mowbray's flawed choice to go with Gallagher in a wide role so often.

Don't agree with that at all. He looked very emotional, really pissed off. His nous is in question, not his desire (this season, anyway).

He was absolutely raging after the second goal, and rightly so too. For the ref and the linesmen to collectively decide BBD and Kaminski weren't fouled for those incidents in the first and second halves is genuinely beyond belief. The lot of them should be nowhere near officiating matches if that's their interpretation of the rules.

For what it's worth I thought we were on balance the better team up until the subs. We created more and limited Hull to a few chances. Eaves was doing well but we looked in control outside of him. Two ludicrous decisions against us.

Post subs we were utterly utterly terrible. We were lucky they didn't score a couple more.

For me we need to stick with the system, not mess around too much. I do really really struggle with what we do with Gallagher. He was atrocious on the right, better on the left, but surely should be playing through the middle if at all. Like others have mentioned as BBD is going to Chile I worry about what will happen.

Didn't they say it was a nailed on penalty and kaminsky was deliberately fouled for the second goal?

How could they not? It's fact. All they could talk about was a new dawn at Hull and how we deserved nothing. They've always had a down on us since Jack 'bought' the title and nothings changed. They're a bloody disgrace.

Blaming the messenger. They praised Hull because they played well and we were downright poor

No Jim, they were creaming their pants over Hull as if they were Pep’s Barca. Did you have it on TV or on your old wireless? 😉

Out with illness

Someone on here said it was Covid

Yep, bit of a pisser when you consider why Hull wanted it postponed.

Always nice to have a game delayed till you have injuries, suspensions and illnesses - and the team that demanded the postponement are at full strength.

You can just feel it, everything has turned.

The BS with the primary kit sponsor.......

Hull City playing games with their squad health to avoid us when we were red-hot........

......then of course they have to have this "new owner bump" the night they're playing us.........

.......in a match with a rookie ref completely out of his depth who was trying to compensate for what I believe is his only other match

ever at this level, which was shite.  So..................

......he blows a penalty/strait red call........

.......& the guy who should be off keeps another goal out just a little after that.

I feel like I did the night after the Derby away match in January of '98 (I watched the Steelers (IN PERSON) lose an AFC Championship Game a few hours later) .

I really hope I'm wrong, but this feels like the beginning of that slide in '98.  We'll be lucky just to make the playoffs.

We were appalling all of the first half. A little better in the 2nd until the subs.

Hopefully he will stop running into people.

Just wasn't Rovers night.

The game was sum up by very incompetent referee who missed 2 very clear fouls during the games that were game changing decisions. Plus few decisions were inconsistent depending on which team it is. When will the EFL and PGMO actually start improving and bringing through better quality referees. Its getting pathetic now.

Right after my rant on the referee's performance, lets talk about Rovers starting 11. Missing Travis was massive for us. Davenport should have replace him and not Gallagher. Playing 3 up front didn't work for us.  Apart from that I woudn't have change any other personal from the start. at half time I would bought on Davenport for Gallagher. Then during the second half I would change formation and gone 4-3-3 with Rankin Costello and Wharton going off for Markanday and Butterworth for Buckley.

I think we were poor defending for the 1st goal, we were a body light in midfield and it shown in the goal. Think JRC and Lenihan was too slow and not strong enough. 2nd goal was a clear foul on the keeper. How was that miss by the ref?

The referee should have award Rovers a penalty for a clear foul by Bernard on Brereton. How can the ref not give it? Why would he go down when he going through on goal? Khadra had a great chance but defender clear it. Lenihan and Wharton had chances from set pieces and should have done better. Edun who also had a chance to score.

Markanday shown one piece of skill in the last few minutes. It will take him time to settle in.

We can get top 2 and automatic promotion so let's  forget this game and focus on the Boro game. I would make 3 changes for the Boro game with Zeefuik, Travis and Markanday come into the team for Rankin Costello, Gallagher and Markanday.

Keep the Faith!

Come on Rovers 🔵

A loss was inevitable but it's the manner of the loss that has got me fuming.

Changing the formation set us off on the wrong foot .

JRC wasn't ready

Gallagher just horrific

Mowbray far too slow to react, by the time he did, Hull bagged the second

Ref was on the take or something, shocking decisions against us

Hull wanted it more and we never raised our game/levels to match.

Perfect summary.

Hull will do well if they can keep all 12 men fit.

Just doing their job. If we'd won 2-0 they'd be giving us the big treatment. It's hard to listen to and watch when you're losing but the commentators were rightly giving Hull their due for a match they were not expected to win.

formation tonight suits nobody, hence the insipid display

This is all that we need to focus on.

Gallagher replacing Travis. Our 2 creative midfield gems playing as defensive midfielders.

This was Mowbray's 1st real test since the Sheff Utd game, and he was always going to build the team around our lynchpin Gallacher.

There are still posters on this board that genuinely believe Gally deserves his place in our 1st eleven.

Davenport has created more in his few cameo appearances, than Gally will do all season.

Yes, we didn't give Gally any service, but his very presence on the pitch means we are 30% less likely to threaten the opposing goal. We have tried this formation for months, if not years. IT DOESN'T WORK.

Our only option tonight was to replace Travis with Johnson, and actually play the same formation and style that the players are now used to.

It was enough of a change replacing both wing backs, without regressing to our pre-Fulham approach.

At least it was probably bad enough for even TM to realise he totally f***ed up, and hopefully he'll be shamed into returning to our winning formula.

Yes, I'm ready for the Gally lovers to now trot out the statistics that show how well he has been playing. The fact is that as he has become more of a presence on the pitch, our form has deteriorated. There are other factors, I accept, but it is NO coincidence.

Don't worry, I've got 4 more rants just waiting to be released..... 😉

Poor performance. From us and the referee. The lads need us though. Moan here, cheer them at the stadium. Really disappointed they got booed off at half time, doesn't do anything for them that!

I think looking back we're really starting to miss Pickering....

No attacking threat out wide without him, its giving opposition defenders less to worry about. In fairness I thought Edun was slightly better tonight but he's not bringing the energy Pickering did. Hopefully Zeefuik can offer us that soon but it'll be at the expense of Nyambe which won't sit well with everyone. Imagine Pickering is still a good few weeks off.

I don't think we hit the panic button just yet, EVERY team is gonna have a rocky patch, Fulham went a good 4 games I think without a win. Wilder was in the crowd and must have been rubbing his hands watching how shite we played, massive improvements needed. I don't usually like Monday games but it may work in our favour a few extra days to bed the new lads in and focus on getting back on track.
