v Barnsley (h) - 29/12/21

Recommended Posts

It should be quite simple and straightforwards, being an evening game have a cut off point of 12.30.

Home team should be informed  by then and if it gets pulled later they should be compensated.

Hit people in the pocket and they'll pull their fingers out.

Barnsley are one of the three teams we haven't scored against this season so I'm expecting a tough, uncompromising side here who will probably come to kill the game at every opportunity. We should have enough to beat them though with the same team and formation which has served us so well over recent games.

Just a reminder of the ticket prices for this game in the BBE and Riverside :

18-23

GBP12.00

Adult.

GBP20.00

Junior (17 & under)

GBP7.00

Senior

GBP17.00

Good pricing. I fear we may drop points here. And if we do, that is OK. If this form is going to be maintained we need to accept that we will lose and draw games, we need to recover quickly.

Yes we will lose and draw games in the future but if we have any hope of promotion tomorrow’s game shouldn’t be one of them.

Could do with an early goal tbh much like the Birmingham game, because it'll end up a frustrating park the bus job if not.  No reason it can't end up a similar score to the Birmingham game if we do get an early one, a narrow 1-0 win if not...

Anything but a win would be a let down and that applies whether we were chasing promotion or fighting relegation - Barnsley have the lowest points haul in the league for good reason - they have been the worst side so far and anyone at home should be disappointed with anything less than a win.

Of course it isn't so simple and sides will come to Ewood to try and stop our forward players and grind out results and the best sides will drop points against the weaker ones.

The key of course is not to panic. Nothing will be lost if points are dropped but then there needs to be a response.

Our biggest problem under Mowbray has been that he is a streaky manager - when things are going well the football can be good, goals flow and we look like a team going places but then when we have a setback that usually ushers in 6-7 game barren spells where we slide down the table.

Setbacks OK if it is a setback and not a month long horror run.

Having said all that I and many others will have looked at this tranche of Hull, Barnsley and Huddersfield as a great opportunity to put a serious gap to the teams behind us. After the Hull debacle we really need a win to keep things going.

Agree with every word. Very good, balanced post.

Should be a decent gate at that price, cue the Rovers....🤔

I know a ridiculous number of people who've got covid currently, I'm talking people in general not just football mates, it's bound to have an impact though. The problem then is it may appear that 20 quid tickets doesn't look like its worth bothering with to swag....hope I'm totally wrong though and the lads get the decent crowd they deserve....

I can see that Hull farce being a real momentum buster.

That, along with all the freak results you tend to get at this time of the year makes me think we'll crash back down to earth tonight.

Rovers 0 Barnsley 1

If this game had been yesterday I’d have imagined a big crowd, you can see that across the pyramid when non league clubs were recording double/treble their standard gates.

However, our game is at night, they will bring very few and it isn’t a bank holiday (though obviously plenty of folk take this whole week off, kids aren’t in school etc). So we’ll see.

Another highly annoying thing from a Rovers perspective about this Covid scare is that it could well have put the breaks on half ST sales, just as momentum was building, as quite understandably, a couple of weeks ago would many have wanted to commit when it seemed that BCD was incoming?
