I mentioned that I wondered how he would do without Moore to aim for. But I have to say his technique was excellent today. If we can't score when he's hitting them like that, we should hang our heads really (or at least lift our heads and get on the end better!). I do think we need to be getting Diaz to be the target for them though. 3 Quote

You just know we won't win a game if we concede first. That's a huge issue. I'd back the likes of Fulham, Bournemouth and QPR to be able to turn games around if they concede the first goal. Quote
had.e.nuff Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 very poor tonight we don't know how to break down sides that sit deep its time to start looking over our shoulders at teams coming up behind us if we don't get going again soon the playoff will be gone. 1 Quote

We're a mid table side at best so we should remember how brilliantly we're doing despite the absolute rubbish we've seen over the past 4 games. Top 6 has to be the aim. It's a fair point but we had the chance to strengthen in January. It was clear what we needed to get us over the line. 1 Quote

I dread to think what our record is over Tony Mowbray's tenure in that regard, but I'd be very confident in saying we'd be up there with the very worst teams in the EFL when it comes to gaining points from a losing position. It's a mentality problem that has never been addressed. 3 Quote
Wegerleswiggle Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 At the end of the day we're still 2nd. On another day we win that 5-1. Plenty of positives, Giles looks fantastic, Hedges, once he settles in will be an astute bit of business, other than the goal the defence was solid again. We've got Pickering, Dack, Gallagher all returning soon. Let's take it on the chin and move on to Wednesday. 5 Quote

Bbrovers2288 Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 Can we still do loans? If so pay newcastle a ton and get Gayle in here pronto Quote

roverblue Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 big game on Wednesday night now, always back us at home to get the win but they really need to put on a performance as its been poor for a while now (albeit scraped a few 1-0 wins). Hopefully have our best 11 out bar Pickering for Giles and see a result to go with it 2 Quote

garnersfags Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 It seemed obvious with 15 min to go that if we kept doing exactly the same things, we would get exactly the same results. My main issue was that we displayed zero composure, especially when it mattered, throughout the game. For me, we hardly created a proper chance in 90 min. One where a forward was expected to score. JR was soooo deep, for 94 min., despite their lack of ambition. Swansea found it so easy to mark BBD out of the game, but the point is he hasn't played well, and we haven't played well (in terms of decent chances created) since Xmas. If we can play Giles at wing back, and Khadra and Diaz up front against Forest, we will win. Or at least create. Our bubble has burst, can we rediscover our effectiveness? All still to play for, but the signs are not great. 3 Quote
Hasta Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 (edited) Rothwell is useless when teams are sitting back and he’s picking up the ball off our back 4. He should either be picking it up within range of driving towards the edge of their box or not on the pitch at all. Edited February 5, 2022 by Hasta 2 Quote

simongarnerisgod Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 kudos to mowbray for getting us up the league, but he`s tactically naive when the game is in progress, especially when we are a goal down or under pressure,we dropped points against luton and coventry at home becuase of his inept subs and bizarre instructions to sit deep 3 Quote

Ideally Giles would be at wing back where he was so effective for Cardiff though, he is more of a creator than a goalscorer. I feel like we really will miss Brereton's goal threat. Fair enough, point taken 🤣 1 Quote

All season we’ve created in the counter with space and numbers. Today up a man against a side parking the bus we didn’t even try to break them down. Never took a wife player on, never played to a forwards feet, nothing through. Everything went wide with long deep crosses. Made it easy in them. Khadra, Diaz and Buckley are not the 3 to be playing long crosses into. To a man the performances were poor. Buckley had an awful game. Sitter aside he got caught with the ball under his feet too many times. Then when received the ball in space never drove at the defense. Again, we literally missed 4 sitters. Giles makes a massive difference - teams can't just sit back against us now because he'll ping in incredibly dangerous crosses. At the end of the day you can't expect Brereton to score every week. Buckley, Wharton and Lenihan all missed very simple chances - it's a team sport, they HAVE to start contributing to the goals column. Quote
