neophox Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 Hourihane has never been on our list. And I would never sign that bloke. The new manager is not panicking in buying players and things are being kept under wraps ... 9 Quote

Well more likely there were never any to get over any line. This is going to be an out and out development (experiment) season. Buy kids, move bigger kids into first team, sell the ones who cope, use cash to support academy, buy more kids, round and around. Implement the owner's 'vision' Like a chicken breeding program. Absolute fucking joke. No chance we are signing anyone for at least a week, like I've said earlier on i do not think there is a will or mentality to get big deals over the line, our mentality seems to be if the budget is 5 million sending 3 back to the owners to look good is how they work. A lot is being put on Broughton he's only just come in, you'd have to question what knowledge he has of the English market, with the recruitment department allowed to be ravaged in the last 12 months. This is why its utterly scandalous we've allowed Lenihan Rothwell and Nyambe to leave, shambles from the owners down 9 Quote
roverandout Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 I have complete faith in jdt. I couldn't say the same for Mowbray. I just wish there were some links 8 Quote

Add to that, he can’t exploit cheaper, foreign markets to any great extent because of visa restrictions. Quote

Both games. Surely we'd be better waiting and getting the right player/ players. Rather than signings for the sake of signings. None of those who have gone derby would fit with what we want to do here. Let's face it Derby SHOULD walk that league. Why do those keen to make out Rovers fans to be an impatient angry mob repeatedly say that surely we would be better getting the right players? It implies that getting some players in to acclimatise in pre-season and signing the quality targets that you want are mutually exclusive objectives and that some have been suggested that we sign inferior players out of impatience. 4 Quote
BigUts Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 We need the right players in a more timely fashion. I don't think anybody would implore signing anybody for the sake of it, but signing players earlier gives us, and them, the best chance to succeed. Later signings are also more likely to be panicked and rushed and then need further time to get up to speed with the mechanics of any way we play, during a period when we need them to be performing not just getting ready for the new season. People seem to be forgetting that we will have played 7 league games by the time window shuts and the 1st game is now just 22 days away. 5 Quote

We haven't got a pot to piss in, thats the reality in my opinion and has been for a few years now. Looking at the current squad, we are in dire straights before a ball is kicked, this could be a long old season. 3 Quote

Hopefully we can do a swap, or have some deals lined up when he does go. Selling towards the end of the window again would be criminal. 1 Quote
Guest Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 All I can see is that JDT is getting on with the job he has taken on, quietly and without a fuss (so far). If it emerges that he has to fight on with his hands tied figuratively behind his back, then I won't be surprised if he doesn't stay in post very long. I hope that preparations for the new season are going well, and that he is able to fashion something worthwhile from the depleted ashes of last season's squad. There are two thumping great fixtures where regardless of circumstances, we expect a good show and a positive result - no need to elaborate further. If no-one comes in, it will look rather bleak for our prospects though, which would be a shame given the optimism and renewed interest caused by the JDT and Broughton appointments. Fingers crossed for something to lift our gloomy spirits eh? Quote
bazza Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 Tomorrows games are not "must win" games as some are suggesting. It's a first run out. For those going to watch I will be more interested in players' performances than game results. 4 Quote

ben_the_beast Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 (edited) It's worrying we've not brought anybody in, but I do think a few assumptions are being made. From what I can see the only real solid link has been the Bosnian defender. Him choosing Sheff United over us doesn't mean we've no budget. It sounds like an excuse but parachute payments skew the landscape. It is very plausible in my eyes that he was highly interested in coming here so Sheffield United blew us out the water with his salary. I agree our wage structure requires some 'flex' however completely breaking it on a highly rated, but somewhat unproven player would be foolish. The fact we were in for him, to me shows we do have a budget. We've missed an initial target. It happens, but it's important we were already making progress on alternatives. Broughton will be aware of the urgency. It's a tough gig, but I don't believe our budget is buttons and the current set up, I'm sure, have a real desire to get these deals over the line. Pressure is on, so I'll just sit back and judge at the end of the window. And that judgement will be on a scale. Not purely success or failure. Edited July 8, 2022 by ben_the_beast 3 Quote
Spartakfenni Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 I’m looking forward to seeing if the young lads can step up to the mark. Class of 92 could now be the class of 22! 1 Quote

Never really understood the class of 92 nonsense, that squad still had top rate senior internationals as it's spine plus a good smattering of them elsewhere in the squad 4 Quote

RoversClitheroe Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 There are literally 4-5 teams worse than us currently. Let's all calm down for now anyway. Greg B said there was a healthy budget so let's believe him until the end of the window. Granted I thought with a new team in places things would be done quicker and more efficiently. However we still have SW in place so might take a while. 1 Quote
roversfan99 Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 Waggott is definitely not up to task but I love how he is being deemed to be the bottleneck. Over 12 years there has been one bottleneck and there will continue to be until they stop owning us. 5 Quote
