I really wouldn't like to see us wasting money on Caulker, we'd be better looking at LB and cover for RB. If we can wrap Adam Wharton in cotton wool we might be able to cope in midfield as well. Need some width on the right and extra firepower however. Caulker might be the nasty bastard we need to sign to fight fire with fire. Phillips will be playing on Adrenalin as a young player. Sooner or later that runs out and you’re back to playing a 17 year old kid, however good he may become in seasons hence.

I'm ok with Caulker coming in to bolster defensive options as a backup to Ayala, S. Wharton, Hyam, Carter and Phillips. I think that looks like a fairly decent set of central defenders. Hyam is a very solid Championship signing so pleased with that. Its not Van Hecke but it'll do (funny how things work out if Mowbray takes the Sunderland job and Van Hecke ends up on loan there). Beyond central defence, I'm really worried about the lack of strength in midfield, and we need a focal point in that centre forward position that we've been lacking since Danny Graham was a starter. Going back to last season we just seem to have a bunch of headless chickens running around in the attacking roles. Dack adds some creativity and vision but everyone else is far too erratic - Dolan in particular needs to improve his footballing brain. Other than that, as many have said Pickering is a concern, likewise the backup options for Brittain. JRC should be nowhere near the first team at the moment. I'd sooner starter Hayden Carter as RB if Brittain is injured. Yeah...3 signings isn't going to be enough. Apparently JDT reiterated 3 in after the game. Won't be more. dallydally
Rankin Costello was simply awful first half. How is he classed as a professional footballer?

rovers11
JDT reiterates there will only be 3 new arrivals. They must all be very close to being done if he's saying that. Hyam seems like a good signing tbf, but midfield and striking options well short on quality. JDT saying that it's about building for the future. It's been clear for a while that the aim of this club is not to get back to the Premier league, it is to develop young talent and sell them on for a profit. Promotion would just be a nice bonus.

JHRover
One look at January tells us all we need to know. The myth that Venkys will bankroll a promotion push if going well ended there. My interpretation of JDTs "3" is this is the bare minimum he expects the Club to deliver before the deadline. If we don't do it I won't be surprised if he walks away. He's shifting the onus onto the club to get business done

RoverDom
I'm hoping JDT saying there will be 3 means there's 3 that are near enough dead certs but there's a 4th / 5th bonus one that may or may not come off. I think we need CB - Hyam RB cover Striker An absolute bastard - probably most effective as a CM Edited August 27, 2022 by RoverDom
davulsukur
Don't see the need for Caulker if we are signing Hyam. Any funds should be put to other positions. LB, CM, ST, back up RB all need attention. Do we not have a RB in the U23's looking to make the step up? We've known for ages that JRC is abysmal at RB.

Phillips was booked for giving just as much as he was getting from their #17. The same #17 that took Ayala out late off the ball. It's bollocks - either let them play physically, or pull up every niggly foul. Don't let them kick lumps out of our players then book ours for a shirt pull.

It's a complete rebuild. Mowbray used to flood the team with loanees to cover up his inept squad building. We haven't done that this season and you're shown what a threadbare squad it is. The long-term plan is to get to the PL, but you'd have to seriously spend big to do that in one transfer window - and we're not going to do that.

I take it you didn't watch Wharton boss Stoke for 45 minutes today then? And Garrett has apparently outplayed him during the Carabao Cup games. The midfield options are absolutely fine. We need a LB, a CB, a CF and a wide player. More if Brereton leaves.

Popular Post TruRover
We’re not getting promoted this season, while obviously would be nice, it has never been the ambition this season. Us fans need to see the bigger picture. We’re going through a rebuild while also blooding through some extremely talented youngsters into the squad. Next season is where the pressure will be on to make a serious playoff push - however this season it’s about JDT applying his style of play, integrating extremely talented players such as Wharton, Phillips, Garrett into the squad, while giving him 3 Windows to bring the squad to where he wants it to be. Only next season can we truly judge how Broughton and JDT have truly done. I would happily take a midtable finish this season aslong as a clear identity is established throughout the season with the right players developing.
