Mowbray got the best he could out of this set if players in my opinion, but it was never going to last. So I’m not angry with the slump, it was predictable and the owners are to blame as 12yrs have shown. Yes they’ll replace the manager and repeat, as soon as you identify where the real issues sits, watching the team becomes much more bearable, or at least it does for me. He quite simply didn't get the best out of them over the last 4 months they are still the same squad. Yes some absences caused issues but he still had most at his disposal plus 2 new attacking players brought in. The rest of it you are bob on as usual but there is no getting away from Mowbrays consistent flaws that have contributed to the fall away. Quote

simongarnerisgod Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 tony is a poor man manager and definately an overrated tactician,he`s made the mistake of thinking he`s better than he is,instead of keeping it simple on the pitch he has continually shuffled players around,it`s a simple as that and the reason he`ll never take us any further, definately should have got more out of what players he`s worked with and should`nt have paid what he did for diaz and gallagher, looking forwards to the next chapter,as long as simon grayson is kept away with a long pole Quote

Let me repeat ... we know that. This however does not excuse the manager from criticism, especially one who has made it into the history books ...,, Most of us expected a Mowbray death spiral to happen, indeed the MB will have many predictions of such happening, .. it's what he specialises in. The magnitude of this one is incredible though. It is OK to be anti owners and anti manager. I’m not being clever, I’m just using the benefit of our recent experience under Mowbray. I said at the end of December that we’d no chance of going up automatically and it was 50/50 wether we were still in the play off zone at the end of the season. Even I over estimated our chances. 1 Quote

To be honest what has killed us has been the complete lack of impact the five players brought in during the window have had. No goals and Giles with one assist I think. Souey added to an already strong team with just one player, Berkovic, that was all it needed. 2 Quote
EgyptianPete Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 Listening to Mowbray this week, it seems to me it's all about him, mind you Andy Bayes never asked about the dreadful run since we were 2nd in the table that would never do would it. If he had said yep I made some team selection errors fine but no not Tony, always something else like its a young team, they are learning blah blah blah, Must be different for Luton, Huddersfield and the like. 1 Quote

Playing a deep lying striker or false centre forward isn’t anything new, Hungary were doing it in the 1950’s, so it was obvious that teams would work that one out as well. We needed a centre forward to use as plan B when plan A wasn’t working. Even Bournemouth have recognised the need for an ale house striker when the football isn’t working. 2 Quote
OldEwoodBlue Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 Quite ironic after hearing 5 years of listening to Tony keep telling us all what good owners we have.... The owners are too humble to talk to Tony. Tony is too good of a human being to talk to the owners. 2 Quote
Mr. E Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 A bit infuriating that he gets to leave more or less on his own terms and is not forced out by the fans or by owners who care. 6 Quote

Reasons why we're doing well to even be in the Championship: Fanbase - we have one of the smallest catchment areas in the entire football league. The town demographic is rapidly changing to a culture less football-obsessed. And we've 3 super clubs on our doorstep (City, Liverpool and Utd) that kids increasingly gloryhunt. Attendances - thanks to the above, plus it being a low wage area, we have among the lowest crowds in the league, even selling below average priced tickets. Income - not much TV money outside the PL, so our income is pretty much dictated by the above 2, i.e. its very low. Squad strength - dictated by our income. Take Brereton and Gallagher out, and its a bargain basement squad. Reasons we should be in the PL: We were in it most of the 90s/00s - contributes 0 points per season. We won it in 1995 - contributes 0 points per season. We won the League Cup in 2002 - contributes 0 points per season. Our expectation-levels should now align with the likes of Preston, but I've heard louder boos at Ewood for draws than Preston fans gave their players for getting beat 4-1 in a derby. The fact that Mowbray has been getting stick this season given all the above is insane. I honestly think we've got the most entitled fans in the country, and as long as that continues, every Rovers manager will get undeserved stick based on delusional expectations. So nothing to do with Johnson as a false 9, Gallagher as a winger and Giles on the wrong side then. Or the fact that he's had every other team he's managed crashing from decent positions since he became a football manager. Alright. Preston aren't £150m in debt so aligning the clubs (never mind our) expectations would be naive at best, stupid at worst? Would be interested in your answers for that one. Your post highlights the short sighted nature of many fans regarding business aspects of the club. They just turn up (or don't) for a day out thinking the club can sustain turning the lights on year after year whilst plodding along. 6 Quote

Or maybe they know that once he’s gone we’ll do better, like we did when we told him to do one for the second half against Derby. We’d probably have performed better with no manager at all after January. He’s hindered us. 5 Quote
chaddyrovers Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 Mowbray has confirmed he is leaving the club after next week game. He has confirmed that John Park will leave and other staff in the medical department are leaving for Man City Woman and Red Bull Leipzig. But Mark Venus is still under contract and We need know whether David Lowe, Ben Benson and Damien Johnson will remain here. Will Mark Venus become director of football here? What role will Waggott play in the next appointment and whats the plan going forward from here. Its disappointing the club haven't talk to Mowbray and even to say Tony we won't be renewing your contract and thanks for all your hard work in rebuilding a football club and efforts are much apprenticed. Rovers must look to appoint to the best man for the job and for me that's is Daniel Farke. He is exactly the type of manager/head coach we need now to take us to the next step 4 Quote
