Wheelton Blue Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 Great read, thanks. Over 60 plus years of watching the Rovers, my Dad reckoned that only Shearer eclipsed Briggs as our best centre forward. 2 Quote
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 I have to smile at that photo of Tommy pursuing the ball in spite of the trailing leg from the defender. Obviously the lad would have been limping around with a twisted ankle after that. Today you would be getting “ there was contact “ and the commentators would be wondering aloud why Tommy didn’t go down ! 1 Quote
Gav Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 The picture of Tommy in the article, he looks like a Heavyweight Boxer. Quote

He was so slow by today's standards. But he got the ball in the net and as we have seen recently, that's quite important!! Edited March 27, 2022 by 47er Quote
bazza Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 He scored over 30 goals in 4 consecutive seasons. And that's without taking the penalties. Our two penalty takers were Eckersley and Langton. Tommy had to be virtually dragged over to take that penalty against Bristol Rovers which became his seventh of the game. 2 Quote
