Available, cheap and the owners will have heard of him, (and Ferguson). Lincoln passed on him. Be just like us to appoint him.

TimmyJimmy
Re Wagner ... This is the barsteward who fielded a team of youth team kids against Birmingham in the 2017 season in order to strengthen Huddersfield's play off chances. They were so BAD that despite going down to 10 men Birmingham still won! For those with short memories Birmingham under Rednapp were relegation candidates along with us and they finished 2 points clear of us because of that match. We go down on goal difference despite tubbing Brentford away. Scandalous for Wagner to do that on the penultimate game of the season and he deserved shooting for that. The authorities let him get away with it of course. If his lousy cheating body ever gets within 100 miles of the managers desk at Rovers I'll be blazing.

Our first Foreign appointment given that opening list would be more likely than a British Manager, especially if you add Carvalhal to the three mentioned before. That's four foreign coaches, and very little being offered in opposition to a British Manager. Given that it’s been predominantly foreign managers who have gained promotion from this league in recent times, I can imagine this would make sense for Venkys. Frank, Farke, Xisco Munoz, Bielsa, Bilic, Silva etc. Only recent exceptions for this are Parker (tons of £) and now Cooper who to be fair has been fantastic at Forest.

Manager markets are not a game of chance, so the bookies wont take big bets due to leaks from grandma's, sisters, girlfriends, uncles etc I bet 200 quid on Berg when it had already been announced by the LT. roverandout
The last time we appointed a Blackpool manager of Little experience it didn't work out too well. We need someone who has promotions from the championship on their cv. Getting out this league is the be all and end all

Mowbray had his own issues which prevented this from happening, but if we had a top-six place wrapped up going into the last day of the season I'd have no issue whatsoever with us doing the same. I think managers have to make calls like that entirely with the fortunes of their own club in mind. We had 46 games of our own to make sure that we didn't find ourselves at the mercy of another team doing us a favour. I'm not sure if we have the squad for a Wagner type manager, but his ability to do well with us in the future would be the sole consideration for me.

I suppose we should just let the opposition score a free goal whenever we grab one that’s marginally offside or from a dubious penalty too.

I remember when I was managing juniors in the Central Lancs we needed to win the last two games to win the league. Prior to these games arguably our best player and the best player in the league, did his hamstring. We played our penultimate game, and despite him being injured i put him on the bench, which raised plenty of eyebrows. We were winning 1-0 but was being absolutely battered, it was only a matter of time before they equalised or potentially scored twice for us to lose. With 20 minutes to go, despite the my player being unable to run or kick a ball, I put him on. Just the sight of him appearing had the opposition completely change their tactics, they put 3 players on him. By the time their manager had worked out, he could barely move, they'd lost all impotence and we won 2-0, won our final game and were crowned champions. Managers make tough decisions, in Rovers case we didnt go down because of Huddersfield, the season is over 46 games. We went down because we finished in the relegation zone due to pur own fault
jim mk2
Haven't read this thread for a few days but Ferguson as a candidate for the Rovers job - they cannot be serious, surely? The man is a grade A nutcase who makes Roy Keane seem like a balanced human being. Wagner at least conducts himself in a proper manner and might get a tune out of this Rovers squad

This is the man who once Huddersfield had secured a top 6 finish rested his players against Birmingham in 2017 to make sure his team as in the best possible form for the play offs. Which they duly won and made millions by getting to the Premier League. Top club management and job done. It wasn't his fault Coyle had been so shite. When Mowbray rested half of his team at Charlton after we had been promoted, which potentially cost Plymouth a play off place, I don't recall Rovers fans slating him for on behalf of Plymouth. rover23
Would welcome Wagner with open arms. Let’s be honest here, given our track record of appointing managers and some of the names we’ve been linked with, he’d be a massive improvement.

But Kendall was an intelligent man and although he was a risk, it was a reasonable one to take given his reputation within the game. Carrick's a bit of an unknown and might make a good manager, or he might not, but Ferguson is clearly very high risk given his volatile nature.
