Bit of a straw man argument that others are doing equally badly. Also Burnley in particular is a different kettle of fish. Not knowing what league they would be in till significantly later than is may factor into the delay, as am sure the candidates available and the attractiveness of the position changes depending on this. It's also worth saying this isn't our first rodeo when we have had some... issues appointing a manager. It's not a one off struggle. The last 2 appointments have seen some very left field and limited candidates which again makes me a tad reluctant to give them the benefit of the doubt. Finally managerial search aside, when you consider income, results, the training ground saga, the ground the picture it paints looks pretty grim across the board. Hardly cause for optimism. Could you actually tell me how long the process is to bring in a new manager, it takes as long as it takes. Main thing is to try and get the right manager in…

JHRover
Yes, I've long suspected that whilst the initial plan and impetus will be on getting a 'big name' or 'big hitter' in as manager that there will be a gradual scaling back of this grand plan over the course of a few weeks. Initially there will have been expressions of interest from some relatively big names. There will probably have been some excitement in Waggott's office seeing some of the quality coming in. This is an attractive club and job and there will be countless unemployed or lower division managers who would fancy coming here and having a good season or two, getting promoted or at the very least enhancing their reputations in the game. But I think as time wears on, and as other considerations come into that mix, we will gradually whittle down the list eliminating the good quality, sought after managers leaving behind a mixture of untried and untested, lower league or unwanted options who will happily wait all summer or agree to our demands. Getting a bloke like Carvalhal will be a relatively expensive and complex undertaking, requiring commitment to a substantial outlay on wages and transfers, bringing in his various coaching staff members and removing those already at the club. Of course at most clubs with any semblance of ambition this is par for the course, a fact of life when changing managers but here if there's a corner to be cut it usually is. Think of it like a transfer window - time after time we've sat around for weeks being 'linked' to good players (Assombalonga syndrome) being told there are exciting names being worked on, that there's a budget to be used, that we should trust the process. And at the end of it invariably we are left disappointed as we fail to get the job done or resort to cheaper, easier options that are of lesser quality. Same people making the decision on a new manager. I also think those running Rovers perhaps arrogantly assume that these managers will sit around waiting for weeks on end whilst we decide what to do or whilst we get approval from India or that these managers will take whatever salary it is we are offering with various strings attached to do the job. I also think they overestimate their own abilities and when a decent manager gets around a table with them or applies any sort of scrutiny to what the Rovers people are saying it will become clear quite quickly that all isn't as it seems at Ewood and whilst on the outside looking in we might appear to be a normal, functioning, stable even ambitious club scratch beneath the surface with Waggott and Shadow Man and we are anything but. JamieUK
Clutching at straws and looking for positives... Had a look at Ferguson's record: 3-1 v Chelsea (H) 1-1 v Man Utd (A) 2-2 v Leicester (H) - Lost on Pens in league cup 0 0 v Arsenal (A) 0-1 v Aston Villa (H) The first set of results aren't bad and is it worth considering he'll have taken over sides short of confidence on the back of crap runs? 100% there are better options out there but if it happens it's nowhere near the level of Owen Coyle disappointment. This is a bit of a silly comment. Of course there are differences in circumstances - with every situation where a club needs a new manager. Just off the top of my head the circumstances and situation at Watford's hire and fire policy is very different to say when Southampton potted Adkins (I think) after 2 promotions, to England looking for a manager after the Big Sam articles to name but three (admittedly extreme to show the point) examples. To say all vacancies and searches are normal or all due to poor planning simply isn't true. Even at a most basic level, a club struggling for months to get someone vs a club who takes a few weeks shows a difference in quality of the managerial search. I'll give you another more recent example. Spurs managerial appointment last summer was a farcical process. They ended up with about the 5th choice guy. To class that search as them needing a manager the same as other clubs at that time would have been incorrect as it was a badly handled process. Contrast that with the appointment of Conte more recently. All needing to fill vacancies are clearly not the same. 9 minutes ago, unsall said: Could you actually tell me how long the process is to bring in a new manager, it takes as long as it takes. And IF we are taking our time because of that, then that's fair enough and I'll be delighted with a good appointment. I'm pretty sure though, that's not the case. Basing it off the fact we had plenty of time to do the ground work before TM left and our previous horrific managerial searches and results I'm pretty certain we are disorganised and dithering. In particular having known this was in the offing for quite a while I would have suspected the work to have gone on before now.
Guest
It really would be a new low for us. The big reset everyone's been touting (I'm in that boat as hearing it myself from people near the training ground), interest shown by Farke, Carvalhal, Wagner etc... a list being extended from 5 to 8 due to 'high end interest' only for the real reason to be greedy agents pushing names of inexperienced managers once again. Fucking Duncan Ferguson. That's me with a free Saturday next year if it happens.
