Which utterly brilliant manager will we be delighted to welcome next?

Lots of people looking like they'll have egg on their face either way here, question is whether it's gonna be Nicko or Mercer!

Surely that's a good thing?

It seems no-one in the media can get a sniff of the inner workings around the manager search - quite right it should be that way.

This also seems to be the case in the last two transfer windows with signings being kept relatively behind-the-scenes.

I think I am too far gone to associate anything good happening with Venkys

Im sure we will have 24 hours of someone else tomorrow, by the weekend Chaddy would have appointed 10 managers off an alleged 8 man list

Chaddy thinks the club has a "plan". If the club does have a plan, it would be a first

I still won't be surprised if nothing happens until the week before the start of the season

Maybe they are here at Manchester Airport  waiting for David Dein and Arsene Wenger,

I think that was me to be fair to Mr O’Rourke.

Pete O'Rourke gets his info from you then... even worse! 😉

Who's signing these U23's and Women's team players by the way? Who's greenlighting them? We seem to have our act together in every department bar the Men's team! We even know the dates of the kit releases which we never get told!

Yes, I've long suspected that whilst the initial plan and impetus will be on getting a 'big name' or 'big hitter' in as manager that there will be a gradual scaling back of this grand plan over the course of a few weeks.

Initially there will have been expressions of interest from some relatively big names. There will probably have been some excitement in Waggott's office seeing some of the quality coming in. This is an attractive club and job and there will be countless unemployed or lower division managers who would fancy coming here and having a good season or two, getting promoted or at the very least enhancing their reputations in the game.

But I think as time wears on, and as other considerations come into that mix, we will gradually whittle down the list eliminating the good quality, sought after managers leaving behind a mixture of untried and untested, lower league or unwanted options who will happily wait all summer or agree to our demands.

Getting a bloke like Carvalhal will be a relatively expensive and complex undertaking, requiring commitment to a substantial outlay on wages and transfers, bringing in his various coaching staff members and removing those already at the club. Of course at most clubs with any semblance of ambition this is par for the course, a fact of life when changing managers but here if there's a corner to be cut it usually is.

Think of it like a transfer window - time after time we've sat around for weeks being 'linked' to good players (Assombalonga syndrome) being told there are exciting names being worked on, that there's a budget to be used, that we should trust the process. And at the end of it invariably we are left disappointed as we fail to get the job done or resort to cheaper, easier options that are of lesser quality. Same people making the decision on a new manager.

I also think those running Rovers perhaps arrogantly assume that these managers will sit around waiting for weeks on end whilst we decide what to do or whilst we get approval from India or that these managers will take whatever salary it is we are offering with various strings attached to do the job. I also think they overestimate their own abilities and when a decent manager gets around a table with them or applies any sort of scrutiny to what the Rovers people are saying it will become clear quite quickly that all isn't as it seems at Ewood and whilst on the outside looking in we might appear to be a normal, functioning, stable even ambitious club scratch beneath the surface with Waggott and Shadow Man and we are anything but.

It fits with our player recruitment strategy. We identify an A list of players, offer a fraction of their transfer value or salary expectation and then seem shocked they sign somewhere else.  We then sign a couple from the C list (lower league) and loan others because we can't recruit.

Manager search is exactly the same.

Laughable.

EW signed by Stuart Jones out of the academy budget. Durrant & Brennan off so plenty of room there for additions. Two year deal as a youth player, easy enough to get done. Not really affected by first team matter.

Ferguson has gone favourite with the bookies at 4/11.Somebody knows something since last Friday, a big swing in the odds. Could be a decent manager in the making from his Everton days.Lets hope he's something like Ferguson down the road at Old Trafford.

That's a great response (about not getting offended) because it gets tedious to see the defensiveness of one or two on here who post in the know stuff and people either doubt it or are confused. I'm sure you can understand it from most people's point of view when multiple "ITK"ers are claiming completely different things! I think it's only fair for somebody to express disbelief at something while at the same time not insulting anybody (and nor should they be insulted).

So, are you saying that the budgets Carvalhal would have to play with here were put to him, rather than him actually being offered a contract? And he has snubbed it (for now)?

Pretty much this yea, a verbal offer was put to him last Monday and he had a week to think if he was happy with what was offered, it appears not.

Can't believe there is so much conflicting information flying around about this appointment.

Big Dunc interviewed

Offered the job

Not been contacted at all

No interview

No offer

Be glad when someone is in the hotseat and it's all over.

(As long as it's not Woodgate or Dunc!!)
