He has a deal for the next two years and ultimately unless we get promoted I don't see much point in that running any longer. He is unlikely to want to sit around here for 4-5 years going nowhere like Mowbray was willing to do. He wants to be successful as a manager and the only way of doing that here is to get promoted. We had a chance in his debut season and the owners/underlings undermined it by refusing/failing to back him in January. If we manage to keep hold of him this summer then next season I suspect is last chance saloon. He'll either get us up in which case happy days or we fail in which case I think he will look to pastures new. I think we do. Also if we signed Undav then we would have made playoffs place. He decided to stay at Brighton Quote

roversfan99 Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 Undav is the biggest what if ever, he could have potentially overturned a 22 point gap to Sheffield United apparently! He didnt sign, Broughton fucked up. 1 Quote

Imagine not being able to come up with a plan B and imagine some other clubs looking at our bench some weeks thinking i wish we had the likes of Hedges, Dack, Dolan, Thomas, Gallagher to bring on. Swings and roundabouts. Quote

The only one you'd want is Ben Brereton-Diaz - but only the version that was sensational for 6 months, not the one that returned from the World Cup break. Quote

They all had their moments admittedly, some less than others, but let's not gloss over the fact that the likes of Hedges, Dolan and Gallagher all let us down massively. Quote

Do not tell me for one min some other managers in this div would not have killed for a bench with Dack, Gallagher, Thomas, Hedges or Dolan on it as we sometimes had. It's ludicrous to think otherwise. If this was Mowbray you'd be giving him pelters so lets be balanced and say JDT has to shoulder some of it as well. The context of my original point before you decided it was a hatchet job was clearly in regards to clubs looking to bounce straight back. I doubt he has even crossed their minds it's just agents trying to drum up interest and maybe make some other admirer elsewhere make a move. Quote

The failure to make the play offs is a collective thing they weren't letting goals in at the other end. Hyam, Pickering, Carter are just as culpable it's easy to say if they hadn't missed this chance that chance or the other wed be there but the other end counts as well if they'd cleared their lines late in gaes. And lets not gloss over BBD who was a big let down for several months as well. Quote
roversfan99 Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 If it wasnt for Kaminski and Brereton in the first half of the season I suspect we wouldnt have been close to the top 6 to begin with. A season without either worries me. 5 Quote

philipl Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 Either the Raos have given GB and JDT as much as they can within the rules or JDT will be on his way. Yes the January window was a disaster in terms of bodies actually arriving but on 30 January we were on for the best window since the days of Tom Finn and John Williams. So I am confident the recruitment team can do a top class job if Swag gets the allocation of responsibilities for paperwork right. Whatever the budget, the mood music has to be hair shirts and penury irrespective of discussions between Pune and Brockhall. Quote

We're a professional football club, employing hundreds of people with a payroll of millions of pounds a year and had a place in the most valuable and lucrative league in the world within reach and you're seriously buying the 'we don't have enough time to do the paperwork' excuse? The window was open for a month, and we had months to prepare for it. What a losing mentality we have around this Club. 7 Quote

Whatever the budget, the mood music has to be hair shirts and penury irrespective of discussions between Pune and Brockhall. Ifs, buts, maybes again. Simple fact is it didn't happen. You don't win prizes or get credit in the bank for trying but failing. You need to make it happen. The window was a disaster. The squad was weakened, or at the very best stood still when it needed strengthening. This directly undermined our promotion push and cost us at least a play-off position. 4 months on and Waggott has said nothing, Broughton has taken responsibility but failed to explain what actually happened (only that it definitely wasn't anything at all to do with the owners, careful to make sure they aren't blamed for anything), there have been no changes made to personnel and I anticipate that we face a long few weeks waiting to see if JDT fancies another crack at it or finds employment elsewhere rather than stay with these timewasters. 'If Swag gets the allocation of responsibilities for paperwork right' - good grief, this is a bloke who has been CEO for over 5 years and is paid a 6 figure salary and we are wondering if he'll learn from January and get the paperwork right? Isn't that the reason we've paid him for the last 5 years, to ensure the operation runs smoothly? 2 Quote

If you get knocked back early in the window look at the next target. That is what we have a recruitment department for. 5 Quote

In fairness, every account I can find is that the O'Brien deal was lined up mid-December, but made clear it would be a Deadline Day deal if it went through. Makes it all the more annoying we weren't prepared with 6-weeks notice. Quote

He was allegedly told of our interest, got showered and changed and hot footed to Manchester. If it was set up beforehand why was he even training on deadline day. 6 Quote
