So having issues with the commercial side of the club is because I ‘prefer self flagellation’?

I’m pretty sure I would rather the club could just have competent people throughout to give us the best possible opportunity to be a success…

What on earth makes you think under Venkys we will ever have competent people throughout? Probably the least important person in the entire club is the one doing “marketing”. He doesn’t set the prices, he just farts around doing “cool” things to go on his CV, which will always have minimal impact on the attendances. In the world of marketing, a job at Rovers (or Hull City) is NW Counties League standard, anyone any good at marketing would be in another industry.

That’s been my experience with marketing people in other sports unfortunately. I suppose the same applies to football.

Yeah, but that perfectly sums up why it can often be a problem.

You can't 'react' and jump down people's throats when you perceive something to be 'completely wrong or unfair' if it's not backed up with some evidence.

Particularly as you've finished up with calling it 'an opinion'.

We've all got opinions.

Example: If I go back in a time machine to before about 500bc and tell everyone the World is round and not flat, I'll likely be labelled a madman. Even though I know what I'm saying is 100% right, I would need some compelling evidence to prove the theory. And me getting angrier and angrier when people don't believe me won't help.

Even worse, when people ask me how I know this, and I answer "Sorry, can't tell you!" it's likely to make more people disbelievers. And annoy them.

Summary: I don't feel like some of us are '..guilty of anything more than.." refusing, at this stage, to believe the word of some random username on an internet forum who insists we've all got it wrong, (despite all the precedent evidence available to the contrary), and we need to see the light like him.

It's expecting a hell of a leap of faith. And we're being admonished for not making it with a full blindfold on.

Apologies for the pedantry, but your dating is wrong. About 500bc many Greek mathematicians would, I believe, have been postulating and trying to prove the Earth was round. A mad theory it was not at that time.

I find myself really excited for the future after seeing his first interview and the behind the scenes footage. Writing a post as to what he has said to spark that promise there are a couple of things which stood out, but the biggest thing is not what he said.

The man has presence and charisma, is animated and walks with confidence. Its the little things. Wearing a sharp suit on his first day, striding around the place, not with aggression but an optimistic, commanding air. Stopping and pointing at Kenny and legends of old. Those things show he not only commands respect, but respects the club.

I'm delighted with the appointment. I don't think it's going to be a case of him giving Mowbrays boys a boot into reality but more that they will all be desperate to perform. I'd wager if Lenihan hasn't actually signed a contract and it's only a verbal agreement with Boro he'd be very tempted to commit his future here. Only other thing to hope is that Venkys don't f*** it up and that the commitments we've given him to sign here, are met.

Who's got a good song for him?

For the record I would have been delighted with Carvalhal as well. In fact he was probably ahead of JDT in my preferred list. But after watching that interview, I believe. JDT is a positive presence.

Calm down dear, it was a joke.

It's great to see, in the main, the club awash with positivity over this appointment.

I wasn't totally sold on JDT getting the job previously, and of course the proof will be in the pudding BUT he come across really well in his interview and looks like he'll bring some passion and energy to the role.

He needs to back that up with results obviously but he's well aware of that by the sounds of it.

Taking the positive route on this and now really looking forward to the summer business and the start of the season.

Not really. Your thinking it’s some guy whose job it is to come up with brochures and emails. Good marketing is also about identifying your consumer, your competitors consumer and your products price / value in the marketplace.

Maybe I’m biased by having been VP Marketing for a global brand…

You think the marketing guy at Rovers gets to make any decisions of significance??
