I'll be pleasantly surprised if he manages to sign 50% of the required players by the end of next month. I mean technically he got the O'Brien deal done - it was Waggot and his pal who failed. With regards to 50% of the players signed by the end of June, that just adds weight to the argument that we'll be heavily involved in the free agent market. You have to get those players signed early. 1 Quote

Oldgregg86 Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Imagine if we did get Rooney. Jesus we wouldn’t have a 3pm game all season . It would be Wayne Rooneys Blackburn rovers for tonight’s late kick off every week 😂 3 Quote

Fact Check. Some of the expenditure such as on the Academy - about £2m - doesn't count for FFP so the funding gap is less than £7m. 13 Quote

Trinidad Rover Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Worst case scenario is Spurs take all summer to hire Slot with Levy playing hardball. We are then up against it to find a replacement late in the summer. You would have to imagine that the plan would be to replace JDT with a like for like, therefore recruitment can continue as planned. Like some other posters, whilst it makes sense on paper, I do think it would pose a risk for Feyenord to hire JDT. Would be a dream move for him though. I wonder what the compensation would be? Quote

I think he's got the potential to be a very good manager. If we are going to appoint someone with UTD connections I would be happy with Mourinho or Van Gaal, no unproven no-marks with an impressive playing career. If we are going to get someone in to learn on the job, let's get someone from the Dole queue, be cheaper. Or give all the fans one season on FM whoever finishes highest gets the job. 🙂 4 Quote
JC4LAB Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Carrick and Company ..young recently retired from playing ..have done well .. as did Mark Hughes for us back in the day...That type of young manager. next ... Not Rooney though. Quote

However, he had a baptism of fire at a car crash club, but actually showed some promise. The jury is out, in my opinion. 1 Quote

All of that is before we factor in the shambles he's had to put up with here! On the bright side, he may not actually be their preferred option - doesn't look like he's the only manager on their list. Edited May 24, 2023 by TheRevAshton 6 Quote
Dreams of 1995 Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 It could be a bit of a madness that the one left to generate potential transfer funds is the coach!!! There would have to some level of compensation Quote
Guest Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 (edited) Rumours abound, now, with PSV being linked. No idea of the credibility. It's going to be a long couple of weeks ahead. Edited May 24, 2023 by goozburger Quote
Exiled_Rover Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 For actual fuck's sake - can we not have a decent manager for more than a year?! God we're a cursed club. 8 Quote

God we're a cursed club. Normally I'd agree with this sentiment, especially compared to the dingles who seem to have the ability to avoid any interest at all in their managers who overperform every year. But in this instance the Club has to shoulder a lot of repsonsibility. It is lazy to simply say 'ah Feyenoord/PSV, he's always going to go there' If he'd been backed in January we'd have got in the play-offs. We might well be preparing for a day at Wembley and getting to the PL. I'm not sure he would walk away from a PL job / season to move to the Eredivisie at this stage in his career. But another long hard Championship season with us rummaging around for free transfers from League One and Two and the excuses about finances already in full swing yeah I don't think anyone could expect him to stay. What's the point, he could get us to top 2 or 3 in January and we might just 'forget' to do the paperwork again or claim FFP rules prevented us signing anyone as is the norm. 14 Quote

Too many clubs being linked, all of which are attractive propositions for various reasons. Even if we'd had a sudden influx of cash and had made zero mistakes over the last year, it would still be a challenge retaining him. If he goes, I think he's raised the standards here, but it would be disappointing to not see him continue what he's started. 6 Quote
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 (edited) The way the club is run from the top means we’ll never be able to hold on to anyone worthwhile for long. Be that players, back room staff, or managers. There’s no culture, no values, no nothing running the club. If he does go - make it soon so we can can get in a replacement. AllRoverAsia Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 So much for projects, plans and process. In football it can all change overnight, nevermind over a week or two. A reminder, if one was needed, to seize the moment which by error or deliberately was completely aborted by the January debacle ..... For which no full accounting has been made, despite promises which became fecking lies. They make me puke, C's the whole bunch. 6 Quote
davulsukur Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Best hope GB has a seriously good succession plan with regards to the manager. Seems increasingly likely JDT will be getting poached. Quote

Broughton and his team taking charge of all the admin involved with transfers is about as comprehensive a change as you can have. He has no power to fire the Club Secretary, but he can sideline him. 1 Quote
