Tomasson had a short and ill-fated spell at Newcastle, but other than that has had no involvement in English football. As a result he is treated as an unknown or 'flop'. They ignore his stellar career with Denmark, Feyenoord, Milan, and as a manager with Malmo.

Meanwhile Kompany is much more recent and well known from his playing days as he was a popular player with City. Even though there's an argument Tomasson's trophy haul is just as impressive if not more with European honours on there. But it is much easier for the Sky numpties to promote Kompany.

Plus they are newly relegated, those clubs always get a grace period of heightened coverage from national media, that soon dissipates once you get marooned down here…

You would like to think that Venky’s have given them a true assessment of what is available in the form of a kitty for, at least, the first two transfer windows. Even if that pot of money is only say a few million, each window, and they know they’ll have to work on bringing in cheap youngsters and developing them, together with utilising the loan market. It would also be nice if they have been given the green light to keep Brereton, should he be persuaded to stay.

Well that’s the football side of things sorted. Now for the CEO and commercial side. Wouldn’t it be good to have people in those positions with similar intelligence, optimism and common sense and have the whole club singing from the same hymn sheet?

Sell BBD and spend wisely on some hopefully good Scandinavia players, who in the main do alright in UK.

Also Carlo can lend us asensio a fm legend haha, but hope he can bag a favour or two

Exactly, he has seen the list and has some players in mind. We are really light in multiple positions and bodies are needed. Then later in the window they can assess what we have and tweak. Fist things first field a team

Yes, he will already know about the players out of contract and the Brereton situation. So I imagine he’ll be trying to get those positions filled asap.

We will have a period of time where he’s getting to know the players that are staying, so I imagine some may end up out of favour as the year ends. Players like Pickering and Gallagher have a lot to prove. Ayala too.

So it's been a long process & we all know about the last 12 years, it may be the optimist in me but everything about this feels right! After all optimism is the the curse that all football fans have to endure!

So, what are the positive signs?

A young charasmatic manager with recent success, an illustrious career in football who is the pitch side figurehead primarily focused on the team & tactics.

A no.2 who has a wealth of experience including at championship level.

A new conditioning coach, god knows we need something different given the injuries we have had at critical times in recent years.

A DoF who will can focus on the future of the team, contracts & scrounging for cash. Allowing the manager deal with the next match.

This is a new management team that may click together & force the clubs attention on football, something that has been lost over the last 12 years! They may also be able to force the "hangers-on" out.

I have not allowed myself get excited about rovers for a long time, (maybe for a few hours last December!) But I have the rose tinted glasses on & I am  officially EXCITED!!

It is good to see such a wave of enthusiasm to greet the appointment of Tomasson at a point when a fresh start was needed. Ultimately the litmus test will come on the pitch and indeed what Tomasson does rather than what he says but it is difficult not to feel excited.

Lots of talk about Tomasson greeting Gallagher with people calling for him to be our number 9. I am sure that a striker with such a track record as Tomasson has will see more than most the many flaws and limitations in Gallagher's game, lets hope he brings in a proper goalscorer!

You are not alone in never being able to grasp that football fans (not specific to Rovers) come in different types and not everyone shares the same level of desire to watch Rovers every week as you or I do, it's not a "responsibility" to attend simply if you can afford it.

You say people can't be arsed but that doesn't need justifying. Supporting a football team week in week out is a huge commitment, money aside. People have differing levels of interest, to those who go to every single game home and away to those who can take or leave it and everywhere in between. Some who lean towards the latter category might want to see the best players in the best league to persuade them to attend. Some may be able to afford it but may not see the value and some will not go out of principle until Venkys leave. I don't see how anyone has the right to question whatever reasons people have to attend or indeed not attend, it doesn't require justification.

The onus is 100% on the club, 0% for people to have to justify attendance or lack of.

That's the impression i got.

He's gone into Rovers and thought were are the actual strikers ?

Then instantly probably understood why we ended up where we did last season.

We have a 20 odd goal striker from last season still employed but on international duty and the one before was sold without any allowance for reinvestment, so he may be worrying about history repeating itself.

Someone has to do the bibs and cones and put players through their basic drills so it might as well be him.  

The new guys can concentrate on the team and one to one stuff whilst Benson can go back to concentrating on the keepers.

No big deal really now we actually have a head coach and his assistant instead of a manager and guy covering multiple roles and trying to run the whole operation.

It's an interesting question tbf.

Obviously being biased, JDT is the better appointment!

But Kompany strikes me as the sort of bloke with a driven, ambitious, winning mindset. He only retired from playing a couple of years ago and should have taken a hell of a lot away from his time working with Pep. On the face of it, seems like it should be a decent appointment.

Can't profess to knowing much about Anderlecht and if two 3rd place finishes are anything to write home about?

Having genuine reason to be optimistic as a Rovers fan in recent years is a odd feeling, but one I can quickly get used to.

The club said Broughton was selected by a specialist recruitment agency hired to do it.

That said the way it came together it does feel like Broughton was offered very last minute when another candidate (Steve Walsh?) fell through. Broughton himself said - I think, need to look back at the interview - that he was offered a couple of days after being approached. 

So while he may turn out to be a very good or bad appointment he wasn't one of the initial targets.

Fair - but he has his arms folded looking disinterested as multiple players walk past getting introduced, not just the still photo. 
Wouldn’t mind a bit of enthusiasm from him.
