Genuinely excited about the appointment. I think it's important he's coming with a couple of his people as opposed to just an assistant. Sometimes numbers matter and it could have been slightly isolating and divisive had JDT's team been outnumbered by the current bunch. Damien Johnson always strikes me as somebody who is very forward thinking, uses a lot of tech in his role. I always found it strange Ben Benson was out on the touchline far more than DJ. I've felt for a while he's been an underused asset that will hopefully have a boss who is far more aligned to his way of working. Quote

Torgeir Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Happy they finally announced it. Wasn't first choice, neither was Broughton, but a lot more creative than what we have seen in the past. Will be interesting to see how the new model works, and Mr. Gregg has to pull a few rabbits out of his hat from day one. A bit of playing down expectations from JDT as well from the get-go: “We have a young team here, and also a great Academy, and the Owners have a clear vision, which is to develop players and become a sustainable Premier League club over time, so I’m really happy to be involved in this exciting new chapter for the club." Hopefully they have a plan mapped out and can start implementing straight away. If JDT is happy for Broughton to handle recruitment it will mean they can just focus on working with the existing team. That's really the bit I don't quite get. Surely JDT will have a clear view of the sorts of player he wants. Maybe he gives a list of types of players wants and Broughton is tasked to find them and sign them? Will be interesting to see how it works. I also note that one of JDTs men is Performance Director and another head coach which to my mind further questions what DJs role will be? Will be a shame to lose him but looks like its on the cards. Wonder where Park fits in too. Park is going at the end of this month 1 Quote

Gallagher isn't exactly mobile either tbh. Quote
Dolly blue Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Really pleased with this appointment…..he has lots to do and I’m not expecting miracles, I’m just looking forward to hearing positivity, aspiration and optimism before kick off….instead of being told “ It’s not 1995..and Wigan is a big club” I enjoyed my days at Stanley last season , made to feel welcome ..but it’s not my club. Now Mowbray has gone I look forward to climbing the steps to the Jack Walker Upper …welcome JDT ! 7 Quote
Armchair supporter supremo Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 New managers are always a big gamble no matter who they are or what club you're at, but this genuinely feels like the most exciting appointment the venks have ever made at the club 6 Quote
Iceman Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Thank goodness, no more Scottish or English managers. 😂 2 Quote

capybara Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Welcome, Jon! I think "cautiously optimistic" is the most fitting term for me too, but it’s really heartening to see the positivity in this thread, and to read the manager’s first comments about the club. 5 Quote

Maybe memory playing tricks on me but can't think of another front two pairing? Quote

Its certainly a formation that has been confined to the history books. Leicester played it in 2016 under Ranieiri. Not many play it anymore. 1 Quote
Nuttall is lost Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Could Darragh Lenihan yet stay with this new appointment or is he off to Boro? Quote

Exciting appointment and excellent that he's brought what seems like an experienced assistant with him where he had success at Malmo with him. The 3 year cycle of FFP should of restarted this year? So hopefully funds available to him to build. If the Venkys want a successful club, they need to put money in the transfer kitty. We need replacements for Lenihan, Rothwell and maybe Nyambe. 1 Quote

Popular Post unleaded Posted June 14, 2022 Popular Post Posted June 14, 2022 Welcome JDT … Quite pleased with this appointment… Think they always wanted a coach from abroad this time … little bit on our assistant coach …. Malmö FF's players wanted to get better on their ball possession. Jon Dahl Tomasson wanted an experienced person by his side. The solution to both parts was experienced Remy Reijnierse from the Netherlands. Remy Reijnierse steps in directly as one of the most experienced in Malmö FF. He has tested a lot in the Netherlands: been head of the academy for PSV, held the highest coaching educations, and worked for various Dutch national teams. Recent jobs also include being an assistant at Stuttgart and Sheffield Wednesday. In the autumn, he was the assistant national captain of the U17 national team that reached the semifinals of the U17 World Cup. What he would do after that was not so clear. Several young head coaches offered him the role of their assistant, but he declined. He wanted to find the right one. The conversation that felt right was when Jon Dahl Tomasson heard from him a couple of weeks ago. The final decision came on Thursday. Judging from the first training, there are two slightly different personalities. A Tomasson who jokes and gets a little philosophical in his answers, and a Reijnierse who is straightforward. - All young coaches need someone who gives reflections and feedback. That is my role, says Reijnierse. - I have been an assistant for 25 years. I have never had any ambitions to be a head coach. My only ambition is to have a fun job with good people around me. Tomasson had Reijnierse when he attended coaching courses and they have had a lot of contact over the years. However, Reijnierse does not count as a direct mentor to Tomasson. He signed a three-year contract with MFF and wants to do something long-term with the team. - I think all teams need three years to reach their top level. You need time to build up and the positive thing here is that the team has already developed a lot. There are many mature players. You can expect results. Reijnierse has not seen an MFF match yet, but he goes into the job of knowing what the priority is in the game. - We have already talked to many players. The players wanted to be able to control the matches more with the ball. They are willing to do so. We want to do it as a coach. That is the point we want to improve. - Everyone knows that Dutch coaches focus on ball possession and of course we have good ideas about it. Jon has it too……. 14 Quote
Gordon Ottershaw Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 I'm very enthused but cautiously optimistic. Obviously, I hope JDT s going to be a wild success but if it doesn't work out, I'm pleased that the club has tried something different and is heading in a new direction. 7 Quote

(ie you send your most impressive athletes first off the bus to intimidate the opposition when you arrive at their ground). A guy that walks onto the training pitch and has the coaches sit up and take notice... until he tries to trap a ball. 1 Quote

None of this 'it's not 1995' or 'The SAS aren't here anymore'. It's much more 'Rovers are a big club and we can go places' Christ, absolutely how it should be. I can't believe what we've been forced to read/ listen to in the past. The dumbing down of expectations at a famous football club. It's incredible really!!! It looks like we might finally have a bit of personality and excitement now. 4 Quote
Popular Post TimmyJimmy Posted June 14, 2022 Popular Post Posted June 14, 2022 Euphoria and realism are difficult bedfellows. Having watched his video interview I could see straightaway that he was worth a punt. Talks well, had a stellar career like king Kenny so will command respect from the dressing room. Focusing on youth development, making the kids present tactics to the rest of the team to improve their decision making on the field in the heat of battle, what's not to like. Reality though, he's starting from a very difficult place. We have a threadbare squad. Recruitment budget are unclear. Desired signings won't be available short term, etc., etc.. Like many before him I expect him to have bad times before the good times arrive. Like it or not we're in for a difficult ride short term but yes I agree wholeheartedly with his appointment and of the new DoF and backroom staff new boys. I'm actually quite excited 😊 12 Quote
