roversfan99 Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 All very nice in theory and diagrams with arrows and talk of possession based pressing tactics seems to be in vogue at the moment, but didn't really produce much going forward at the weekend. Gallagher was as out of place out wide as he ever was, Hedges didn't suit the number 10 role and Vale couldn't bring others into play. Lots of improvement required and hopefully will come with a mixture of time under the new manager, a realisation of what our current players can and can't do and an introduction of fresh faces, whether totally new or in Dack's case, a hopefully resurgent old favourite. 1 Quote

It was game 1. JDT and the players need time and patience to bring in the tactics/formation and style of play JDT wants to bring in. Its work in progress and game by game we will get much better by playing this style. Hedges did well in the number 10 role on Saturday. Edited August 1, 2022 by chaddyrovers 1 Quote

Never said it won't take time, and my consistent message has been that it is all about results so 1 out of 1 isn't bad. We created very little but we won the game, that's all that matters, no matter how many pretty pictures with arrows are drawn. In the meantime, like most I will be judging following each game and commenting on what is good and bad. Didn't really work going forward but might take a lot of trial and error to get where we want. JDT has always said it will take time and patience to bring in his playing style and get us playing the way he wants us to. So maybe give him the proper time to bring in it and get the signings in he wants Quote

I dont get why you keep repeating it and it doesnt mean that we cant comment as we go, game by game. Quote

The players where literally booting 30 yard passes to each other, then walked back in. No warm ups, no drills… Maybe he wanted to see how they’d react in that situation. To see if they’d work it out for themselves. Now he knows. Quote
sverrehh Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 (edited) A modern, hungry and enthusiastic coach is what Rovers needs. We have got a young squad and a new system. We might not see the best of results and table position this season - though hopefully we will improve on last season's 8th - but having some patience I believe we can do wonders next. The talents at the club will only become better and the transfers over time will suit JDT's style. I might be inspired by watching Arsenal's docuseries All or nothing on Amazon prime where Mikel Arteta is given the time needed. Interestingly Arsenal had the youngest squad last season - much like ours. Edited August 4, 2022 by sverrehh 1 Quote
roversfan99 Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Arsenal also have spent crazy money in recent years so Arteta is lucky to seemingly have total security in his job. Quote

Yes clearly, it is not entirely fair to compare the two managerial situations. Arteta has spent enormous sums. Though giving some managers time (atleast a 1-3 seasons) has proven wise on many occations (and sometimes obviously not). I remember watching the four year plan' docu where QPR eventually went up to the premiership. A shambles at first, though they managed to succeed with Warnock at the helm. Different time obviously. Arsenal have backed Arteta with a clear plan and transfer strategy and they stuck by him and the Strategy even tho they have been some very disappointing and uncomfortable moments. He has made a couple of quality signings in Jesus and Zinchenko both from City. Quote

A lot of business talk but 5th considering how much they spent last season was poor and I would suggest that a similar failing to get the top 4 after another summer of huge spending would leave him at the job centre. Not sure I necessarily go along with that. The Arsenal squad he inherited was full of overpaid or ageing rubbish. Arsenal: Leno, Maitland-Niles, Luiz, Sokratis, Saka, Xhaka, Torreira, Nelson, Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazette Subs: Pepe, Mustafi, Martinez, Mavropanos, Willock, Guendouzi, Smith-Rowe 11 of that 18 are already out of the door with more likely, whilst he's trying to develop the youngsters that remained. Nicolas Pepe for one they can't shift because of a daft contract given to him by the previous regime. He's spent £300m since then, but it doesn't dwarf any other Top 6 team and I actually think those he's brought in look decent. His two big splashes have been Ben White and Partey - you'd probably argue those two need to show up this season. Just like every other club in the division (barring Chelsea MAYBE), no-one will get close to the top 2 in my opinion. They'll have to fight for 3rd, 4th and 5th with a tilt at Europe and domestic silverware. Chelsea £438m Man City £360m Arsenal £300m Spurs £276m Man United £275m Liverpool £235m Everton £209m Leicester £205m West Ham £200m Quote

Football is a business at times. I don't expected them to be in the top 4 last season and I think they will be challenging for that 4th Spot with Chelsea and Manchester United. Expect Spurs to finish 3rd with Liverpool and Manchester City fighting it out for the league title. The club have spent plenty of last season and this summer. He has to gel it together going forward Quote

I think Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale and Thomas Pratley were good signing last summer plus signing Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko add to the squad now. 1 Quote
SBlue Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 FullSizeRender.MOV My favourite thing about the gaffer is the way he says “everybody”, and that it sounds like someone from Rovers put space echo on it 1 Quote

moerpho Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Long way to go but thank you JDT for a perfect start to the season. Means a lot after years of pointless obscurity. Just hope Venkys give you funds and time. JDT’s blue and white army! 2 Quote

Standard BBC if they aren't blowing smoke up one of the big boys or doing a bit of virtue signalling towards some latest fad they are lost. 1 Quote
