Yes, Bolton Borough has a bigger population than BwD, but certain parts of their borough are Man Utd strongholds. Plus, a load of our fanbase have historically (and now increasingly) resided across plenty of other Lancashire boroughs. So it’s not simply a case of ‘bigger population’. (Same when the Dingles try and pretend they are getting 20k from the town of Burnley when in reality their fanbase stretches from Hyndburn across to West Yorkshire). Man Utd strongholds?! I think you're reaching a bit there. You can say that for any town in the country. Bolton has twice the population of Blackburn. That will be a factor in their attendances. And we haven't even touched on the 30% of Blackburn's population that don't go anywhere near Ewood.... Quote

Mattyblue Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 I know Bolton is a bigger town, but despite that they have rarely had bigger gates than us through history, which is fair enough as much of our support has always come from outside Blackburn (and evermore as demographics continue to change within the town). The reason they are suddenly leaving us for dead crowd wise is price. 1 Quote

Mattyblue Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 (edited) Eh? Darwen, Rishton, Great Harwood, Oswaldtwistle, Accrington, Clayton Le-Moors, Clitheroe, Haslingden, Bamber Bridge, Chorley, Hoghton, Mellor, Abbey Village, Balderstone, Samlesbury, Wheelton, Langho, Whalley etc etc. Edited April 10, 2023 by Mattyblue 2 Quote

But I can't think of any other club where a third of it's population don't go and watch the town's team. You're being very selective with your facts. Edited April 10, 2023 by Sweaty Gussets Quote
Mattyblue Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 (edited) I know you can, that’s my point. So not ‘bollocks’ then. 😁 Neither do I, and that is my big worry for the future of this football club, so thank god we have these non-Blackburn areas to pull from. Upside Down Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Erm Ewood only holds 32000 so realistically only a third of the towns population can go to games. 1 Quote
Sweaty Gussets Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Just now, Mattyblue said: Who said it was? You FFS! Your whole argument is that population has no impact on Bolton attracting more fans than Blackburn. I conceded price was the biggest factor, but also correctly stated that as Bolton has a pop twice the size of Blackburn that will also be a factor. Also, a third of Blackburn's population never go to Ewood, which adds further weight to the population claims. I'm not even getting into the Man Utd 'strongholds' in Bolton 🙂 When you have conceded that population will be a factor in Bolton's rather obvious potential for bigger crowds then we can happily get on with the rest of our day 🙂 1 Quote
Mattyblue Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 (edited) Well no, that was the opposite of my point as I gave the example of Blackburn being a bigger town and Borough than Burnley, but that isn’t the be all and end all as they attract fans across plenty of other towns… just like us. Bolton are not a potentially bigger supported club than us just because the town of Bolton is bigger than the town of Blackburn, as history has shown. Edited April 10, 2023 by Mattyblue 1 Quote

So Bolton having twice the population of Blackburn, and over 30% of Blackburn's pop never going to Ewood, will have no bearing on potential attendances at those clubs!? Quote
Mattyblue Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 (edited) If we only had our support coming from the town, then obviously. But we don’t. It’s about where the fanbase resides and much of ours has never resided within the boundaries of Blackburn or have moved out the town to outlying areas over the past 25 years as the town has fundamentally changed demographically. Bolton have 14k ST holders to our 9.5k due to them being half the price and the fanbase buying in to a ‘new dawn’, not because there are more folk residing in the town of Bolton over the town of Blackburn. History shows that our support has always been evenly matched… until the last couple of years. Edited April 10, 2023 by Mattyblue 1 Quote

Oh right, we're back to this! Obviously BRFC is unique in this regard😁 You've gone full Chaddy! Quote
Mattyblue Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 (edited) If you say so. You think Bolton has a bigger fanbase/fanbase potential due to the town of Bolton being bigger. I disagree due to how our fanbase has geographically changed in recent decades. So we might as well leave it there. Edited April 10, 2023 by Mattyblue Quote
GHR Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Ah, arguments about population. Never change BRFCS. Quote
