I really thought this season would be the one when we regain our position as Burnley's superiors but I was massively wrong. Kompany has done a terrific job, bought well and used the loan market excellently. But the thing I give them most  grudging admiration for is their spirit. How many times have they come back from behind to win? I'm guessing ten but maybe Longsiders or Sympatheticclaret can confirm. That ethos cannot be understated and drawing the obvious comparison with us they are streets ahead in nearly every aspect of the game. That might rankles with a few and it makes me sad but it's the truth.

Kompany for Tomasson? In a heartbeat.

We will always be Burnley's superiors, they are just temporarily above us in the table. Obviously 'temporarily' is a subjective term!

Forgive me if my memory is hazy but didn’t you guys run big Sam out of town?

Only the Chicken Chokers.

Lets put it this way - if by some miracle Big Sam rocked up at Ewood on Monday morning the derby game would take on another complexion all together. I’d actually fancy our chances.

I don't know, their current good fortune on the pitch still masks issues underneath.

It's must be very hazy as that's a massive simplification.

Whilst it would have been nice to have brought in a better manager, most fans would have been happy to keep SA there for the foreseeable. He even said himself he wanted to leave at some point, so it would have been intelligent to keep him here for stability, whilst conducting a manager search.

Unfortunately, "intelligent" to Venkys is to give an agent full control of the football club they've just purchased and agree with everything he suggests, even when people who have been at the club for 20 years are telling them it's all going tits up.

This quote should appear in a Blackburn Rovers version of one of those " WW2 in 5 minutes " type of You-tube videos ... it rather sums up your past decade, sadly ...

Fair enough, I could have sworn there were numerous on here wanted him out - and a number who were delighted when they got rid. My apologies if I’ve made all that up in my head.

What issues underneath? As far as I know right now everything is running fairly smoothly. I’m no fan of the leveraged buy out but so far they haven’t put a foot wrong - time will tell if their business plan is long term or just some asset strip. Not sure what you imagine is going on behind the scenes though 🤷‍♂️

their current good fortune

No team is this far ahead, at this stage of the season, as a result of good fortune. After 28 games teams are exactly where they have earned the right to be. After 46 the best team over the course of the season wins the league etc.

Agreed. I think if you brought Dyche in it would be different as well. I expect it to be different anyway, there is just no way they can put in a performance like the one at our place.

I should have said Alan Pace’s good fortune. He was one bad appointment away from a catastrophe.

Objectively, he’s bought the club with their own money, overseen the sacking of your best manager and a relegation, and then bankrolled promotion from the championship all without putting his hand in his own pocket. What happens  when the bank of Dyche runs out?

Good fortune or good recruitment?

Agree on the way they’ve bought the club. It’s now to see if they can make their version of ‘money ball’ work. Maybe it will but I’m not convinced. If Kompany takes us up (seems likely now) and keeps us up (a much bigger ask) then he will be on the move you’d imagine.  Can they get the next one right? Who knows, that’s why I’ll enjoy seasons like this one when they come along as you never know when the next one will be.

I doubt Pace knew who Kompany was. Someone at your club can pick managers. I think after Brian Laws someone must have decided never again. At the time Pace needed some good PR so he couldn’t get it wrong. I think that shows with the amount of time it took to bring a new manager in.

Like I said previously he did well to keep the club intact rather than changing everything. I think that was originally done for financial reasons than a considered decision.

It’ll be interesting to see if he wants Burnley to stay up, or do it on the cheap for the yo-yo money.
