That sort of thing happens once in a generation AND they had to change managers to get there. Wouldn’t surprise me if we see a Furphy/Kendall first season from JDT: dreadful start as players and manager suss each other out then a long unbeaten run to get us in the mix. Quote

Sounds a lot like Mowbray... Though the phases above would need to be followed by a 2 month winless death spiral. 1 Quote
Danny O.Brien Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 A few predictions for tomorrows game. I'm thinking a 2-1 win tomorrow. Gallagher to get both. An assist for substitute, Adam Wharton. And me pissed by two o'clock. Quote
simongarnerisgod Posted July 29, 2022 Author Posted July 29, 2022 i think we`ll smash em,5-0,diaz to run riot with a hat trick and put another few million on his value, dolan and wharton with a set piece header😁 Quote

Irish_Rover Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Getting massively excited now about the game tomorrow, new manager bounce and all that jazz. A lot of trepidation aswell. A win on the opening game of the season could really set a trajectory for us. If we remember last year we had a lot of concerns going into the first game. Lot of squad players leaving, our top scorer from the year before being sold, where was the goals going to come from etc. We beat Swansea and I think it gave the team and the fans confidence, which we then took onto an away draw at Millwall and an away win at Forest. Neither of those results would have followed if we didnt have that good start I reckon. Opposite to that, a bad loss could be a big hit on confidence and leave us waiting weeks for a win (basically the start of the Coyle season). Give me a jammy deflected injury time goal for a 1-0 win and I'll snatch your hand off! 2 Quote
Popular Post Proudtobeblue&white Posted July 29, 2022 Popular Post Posted July 29, 2022 For the first time since the Loons rocked up, I'm slightly optimistic about tomorrow. I'm starting a new job on Monday, as a leaving present I was given a new shirt, £52 saved! My son nicked it, and will be wearing it when we trap up! 11 Quote

OldEwoodBlue Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 I am feelling a 4-0 win. Hedges, Ben & 2 for Vale. Cue mass hysteria that we are top of the league. 2 Quote

JPTSwindon Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 I hope Vale is in the mix. The lack of signings, we are relying on a wildcard coming good and he clearly has an eye for a goal. 1-1. Quote

WacoRover Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 I can’t wait for the season to start, and for jdt to pull Rovers fans up into the clouds again, and have a team to shout about this season. It’s a long way from Waco to Ewood, but I will try to make my victory shout heard there, 2-1. COYB!!! 2 Quote
Ossydave Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Anyone else unable to sleep for shit? Added pressure to get the wins this season as we battle to try and get ahead of our toothless neighbours. The brief is simple for day 1, win and win by more than a 1 goal margin. Really hope it works out for JDT, if he manages like he interviews then we're in for a good season, the players simply HAVE to enjoy playing more for a character like this than monotone Tony. 2 Quote
glen9mullan Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Dont think this is an easy start given only one player in, and plenty out. New managers in both dugouts. Positives, we have retained our attacking players to date and have goals in us. Negatives - Think we will miss Lenihan and Van Hecke so keeping a clean sheet maybe tough ask. Going to go with a 1-1 draw 1 Quote
Mattyblue Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Negative - looks like it’s going to be pissing down, in July. 😩 Quote

It feels like (purely based off interviews etc) that JDT would be pushing a winning mentality on the squad, rather than TM's shoulder shrug and "we'll turn up and see what happens" Obviously a few things need to change/improve from the Mowbray era but hopefully JDT isn't driving us all crazy with team selections, players out of position, lack of training on set pieces and a footballing philosophy that doesn't have much in the way of formations. He's already put one fear the rest recently, where he's said he doesn't want possession for the sake of it, nor does he want us just pointlessly passing it around at the back. It's an exciting day for sure to see how he sets us up etc. Pre season didn't give that many clues due to the mixed teams used in most games. 3 Quote
OldEwoodBlue Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 I hope Ben Benson has done plenty of revision of what the new dots mean. Quote
arbitro Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 This is the QPR squad with some decent players but nothing to fear. I really want to see some real intensity to our play, quick, sharp incisive passing and lots of movement. Obviously winning is the most important thing but if we can win with the afore mentioned qualities I'll be delighted. Today could be the start of a new era on the pitch for us, an era were we are entertained, were we can see a plan by the manager and see plenty of goals and points. The rest will take care of itself. Upside Down Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 It really is a shame that the old church next to the ground got bowled. I always thought it was really cool having that right next to the ground. Quote

arbitro Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 There has been a change to the number of substitutes that can be made. Teams in the Championship, League One and League Two were only able to use three substitutes from seven available during the 2021-22 campaign. The number of available substitutes will remain at seven, but teams will now be able to make their five changes across three opportunities, not including half-time. Quote
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted July 30, 2022 Moderation Lead Posted July 30, 2022 Delighted there’s real football back today. Just so we’ve something to talk about other than meltdowns, people’s need to relax, confusion about why people are so relaxed, not judging until the end of the transfer window and last but not least…. People on Rovers’ Facebook page angry reacting to the fact Ewood is cashless. The football club we all adore is what unites us and thank Christ they’re playing again today! 8 Quote
