Popular Post Sparks Rover Posted August 15, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 15, 2022 (edited) Lennie was a friend of mine, first met Lennie when he was an apprentice at Rovers. He shared digs with Dave May on Nuttall Street, because I lived on Nuttall Street they would pick me up every week and take me to the Centre of Excellence.....I was in high school at the time and to think back to those days when these lads where young and fit with the world at their feet. 😪 He had a good career and gave a lot of people some happy times RIP Len🙏 Edited August 15, 2022 by Sparks Rover 17 Quote
tomphil Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Main memories are of him breaking through into the first team and me thinking how great it was we had a good young striker in the ranks at last. Goal v West Ham and levelling the score in the last min away at Oldham stand out. RIP 1 Quote
Popular Post sympatheticclaret Posted August 15, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 15, 2022 Very sad to hear this, and thoughts and prayers go to his family. The fact that he graced both our famous clubs with distinction seems a trivial point at this time. I had a couple of business dealings with him, and he was a lovely man. A great competitor and not above a bit of mischief. There is a great story where he was charged at the " player's court " at Gawthorpe by Stan Ternent for appropriating something from his office. Len pleaded " not guilty " . At that time, Len was the only Black player in the 1st team squad, and unfortunately for him, Stan then produced the CC-TV footage which clearly showed a " gentleman of colour " entering & leaving his office. " What have you got to say for yourself ? ", pressed Stan. Len drew himself up to his full height, " It's mistaken identity " !! Even Stan couldn't help but laugh ... RIP Len ... you'll be missed ! 😢 12 Quote
arbitro Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 I saw a clip on the Radio Lancashire website of a recent interview where he was 'talking' through a machine that saved thousands of pre recorded words. He was in good spirits despite the horrible disease having almost total control over him. I remember him as an honest, hard working professional who never gave less that his all. RIP Lenny and sincere condolences to the family and friends. 2 Quote
roverandout Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Horrible disease. Can't imagine being locked in ur own body. Rip Quote
Backroom Tom Posted August 15, 2022 Backroom Posted August 15, 2022 Awful news, what an utterly horrible disease, cruel beyond words Rest in Power Lenny Quote
Atko's Engine Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 His time with us was in my early days of watching Rovers so I don't remember much of his time with us, but it's a very sad day. MN is a horrible disease but he did a lot to raise awareness & funds for further much needed research, to his enormous credit. An ex teacher of mine had it, everyone feared him but to see how quickly his health deteriorated following diagnosis will stick with me. Thoughts are with all those who knew Lenny, may he rest in peace. 1 Quote
Sweaty Gussets Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Lenny Johnrose (1969-2022) | rovers.co.uk Played with Lenny in Preston's Town team many, many moons ago. He was so much better than everyone else! RIP to a lovely fella. 2 Quote
simongarnerisgod Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 i used to love lenny, what he lacked in technical ability he more than made up for in effort,i remember a league cup tie at rotherham when the wind got hold of his extremely ambitious shot from near the half way line and deposited it into the net😊,he`ll be fondly remembered by everyone at all of his clubs 2 Quote
R0verb0y Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 It's a particularly cruel disease that's taken him, specially as sgig notes, when he put so much effort into his games. RIP, Lenny. Quote
Popular Post SamTheShrew Posted August 15, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 15, 2022 Lost my dad exactly the same way to this cruelest of diseases. whilst he was before my time at rovers, I’ve been following his journey on twitter and he rarely lost his sense of humour in the face of adversity. I’m surprised to hear that he has passed away given his relative condition, but I can tell all that this will be a bitter sweet blessing in disguise. No-one wants to get to the real latter stages of MND. RIP Len. Another MND warrior taken too soon. 14 Quote
