I liked the citrus notes, definitely a tasty wine. Could have had a touch more for my personal taste — did I taste some apricot in there, Mercer? A dry wine, but that’s OK with me. As recommended, it went well with the fish pie. Would buy again. 

Glad it ticked the boxes.

It's the citrus that's dominant, perhaps a hint of apple.

It's what I term a 'quiet' white - quite subtle.

White or red, much prefer those wines at the dry end of the spectrum.

The flavours of Alsace with the lightness of the Mosel.

A great thread as wine has long been a passion, if only I could remember them all 😱

Not that I know of, I got mine from Chapel St Wines in Lancaster, not sure if he still stocks it. It's a nice drive through the trough, I'll ask him.

Adam at Chapel St has a special interest in Italy and that's reflected in his range of wine.

Chateau Queyret Pouillac is presently on sale at Booths for just £7.50/bottle.

It's a wine which has 'plenty to say about itself'.  A bit of a marmite wine - some love it, others wonder why.  Widely retailed at about £10/£11 bottle so at just £7.50 think it's well worth a punt.

Never had that one - I'll take your advice and give it a miss!

A sommelier once gave me two tips about Malbec.  Firstly, pop it in the the fridge for about 20 minutes and then secondly let it breathe for about 20 minutes.- find it enhances the flavour and gives a smoother finish.  If I'm organised then I will do it!  If you like a particular Malbec and drink two bottles over two consecutive nights, first night do as you normally would but second night do as the sommelier suggested and see if you notice a difference.

Not at all! I’m all in for the learning. The next bottle I will be doing exactly that.

Those sorts of things can affect the taste quite a bit.

For example if you have a scotch whisky that tastes like a mix of jet fuel and urine then a wee drop of warm water can totally change it and make it fit for human consumption.

Saturday steak night!  Goes down even better when Rovers win.

Had an excellent red (Domaine de la Baume Elite d'Or Cab Sauv/Marselan) which was spicy and didn't half pack a punch and a great accompaniment to steak.  The missus picked it up and we thought it was terrific for £12/13.

Had a nice mushroom dopiaza with a karma kola.

Had to give up the booze a few years ago unfortunately so can't partake in the finer things anymore. 

But I did enjoy a nice Chianti back in the day.

Thought I'd start a thread for any of us red wine connoisseurs.. 

It's funny how our palate changes over the years. I used to hate red wine. Now, it's the only thing I tolerate. Beer makes me so ill.  Red wine also gives me a totally different 'tipsy' or 'drunk' feeling, perhaps that's just me?

Anyway.  Myself and the wife have had a dabble at quite a few different ones..  I grew quite fond of the 'Reprobates' one- not the one with mugshots on but they've stopped that unfortunately.

Please bare in mind I am not an expert- I like some better than others and have developed a bit of a taste- but I just buy based off how interesting the bottle is and cost- cool looking bottle, not too cheap, not ridiculously expensive- we will have a dabble.   A refined method of scouting.

So, without further a-do

We had a do at this one  it's a Bordeaux, bought it because it's called "Bastide" and I thought it was amusing- wife didn't agree.  Very nice. 7/10

Currently supping this Malbec,  very funky label,  full bodied and highly drinkable 8/10 for me- obviously taste is highly subjective so won't try and describe that subjective experience- but at £7.99 or something it's worth a dabble in my opinion.

I don't know the lingo with wine, but would love to see what you guys enjoy a tipple of and what others think of my 'taste' ..

Aldi do some belting reds..

Not a massive fan of Malbecs, but this one is really nice,  full bodied and only £7.99 doesn't break the bank- solid 7.5./10.  The funky label takes it up to an 8..
 

Another belter is this 'Bastid', I buy red's based off label- doe's it look interesting and price- not too expensive, not too cheap..  Bordeaux, £9.99,  bought it because it was sounded like bastard- thought it would amuse the wife, but it didn't..  However, went down a treat, very nice 8/10- worth a dabble...

Looking forward to scanning through this thread..

Taking things slightly off topic, Glen Marnock, Highland, Single Malt, £17.99 from ALDI is by all accounts a great tipple at this price point. 

I don’t drink whisky myself, but told it’s amazing.
